accidental or intentional damage or even the HINT of the same are specifically NOT covered under the standard warranty..
you can buy damage insurance from lenovo for about $160..
which would cover the above and more..

One caveat to using your Homeowners: they will almost certainly replace the laptop, but the deductible is usually high (whatever you have for Homeowners- it can be $500 or more.) This can be a decent deal *but* it will usually go on your insurance history as a Homeowner's claim, which can significantly raise your premiums and/or make it difficult to get insurance for the home in the future. YMMV, of course, but I've seen cases where it was very difficult to get Homeowners for a house because the previous homeowner had made 3 claims, all for very minor stuff. It can be a good option, but beware.

only if there is no obvious damage showing it was a power surge or lightening..pianowizard wrote:How about damages caused by lightning or power surges?
FYI i once took a 240 in trade from a customer who had a lightening strike come down the telephone line and zap her computer..
all i had to do was swap the modem card and it was fine..
it was out of warranty at the time so this was not an option..
if you tell the support guy "there was a loud BANG!, the thinkpad lit up like a neon sign and then died, all this during a thunder storm while i was unter a tree in a field" you will not get a warranty repair..
OTH, if you limit the disclosure to the basic fact "it stopped working" and leave it at that, you should get it fixed..
remember, you have the right to remain silent..
use it..
don't volunteer un-needed information..
