Has anyone ordered one yet?
Lots of new x60 and x60s on the Lenovo website today. I tried to order one but told me to try again or call Lenovo after the credit card page. Not sure if its my credit card or if you still can't yet actually order one yet. If someone else tries, let me know!
Ah ok.aamsel wrote:ANY X Series model listed as having a CD drive comes with the ultrabase.

Vypr wrote:For the x60s, 17044ju model, it says it comes with a cd-rw/dvd combo drive, wouldn't you be forced to purchase the ultradock then?
One more question, how come the "ThinkPad CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo II Ultrabay Slim Drive (with Flat Bezel) [$152.10]" and "ThinkPad X6 UltraBase [$199.00]" show up as seperate options?
Is there really a difference between the two combo drives?
The ultrabase is just the base, with no drive in it. The drive is just the drive. If you buy an X60/X60s or ANY X Series model listed as having optical, then you get the ultrabase and the optical drive, BOTH pieces. A good deal, if you want them. You can take the optical out of the ultrabase and put other options in the slot, such as second hard drive.

I agree, I've had them waive this (shipping cost) for phone orders on 3 different occasions. If they'd say no to me next time I'd probably politely hang up and call another rep...

Great answer, but it didn't answer the QUESTION.aamsel wrote:The ultrabase is just the base, with no drive in it. The drive is just the drive. Why in the hell does Lenovo add options that you've really already bought? It's definitely confusing.
No options that you have "already bought" are included with any X series.
I understand that you are confused, so just post the model numbers that you are looking at, and list any questions you have about each configuration. I (or someone else here) will explain the configuration to you. Or, just call one of the sales staff at Lenovo, and they will happily go over it with you. They don't know everything, but they definately can tell you what comes with each model. But again, you don't buy anything twice with any model.
First off, there are no external CD drives with any model. Any model that lists a Combo drive comes with an Ultrabase. It has to. Lenovo bundles them with some systems. If you want a base with drive, it is a good bit less money to buy them at the time of the system purchase than to buy them later one.
Again, post your questions, and I will answer them.

Thanks for your reply. I agree that you don't seem to be able to 'buy again' what you have already bought.
But what is confusing is that the opposite does not seem to be the case. When there IS no included ultrabay (i.e. you don't buy an ultrabay item like a dvd recordable), I don't see an option to add one.
Also, where can you buy the dock to go with the ultrabay/X60 combo? I don't see that either?
And finally, why are there separate prices here:
512 MB included in base system
768 MB (2 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM SoDIMM PC2-5300) [add $30.00]
768 MB (2 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM SoDIMM PC2-5300) [add $54.00]
1 GB (2 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM SoDIMM PC2-5300) [add $75.00]
1 GB (2 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM SoDIMM PC2-5300) [add $94.00]
1.5 GB (2 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM SoDIMM PC2-5300) [add $199.00]
1.5 GB (2 NonParity DDR2 SDRAM SoDIMM PC2-5300) [add $200.00]
I don't see any differences that show the cost differential? And I don't remember asking about external cd drives - maybe you were answering someone else's question?
Thanks for your thoughts - it does seem confusing to me, and I think I'm fairly intelligent, though of course that's a personal opinion....

There should be the option to add the X6 Ultrabase, it's in the section with the Docks. Also if you want to have an optical drive and the ultrabase, like aamsel said in a post above, then it is a good deal to get one of the thinkpads that come with it bundled. I purchased the X60s 17044JU which came with the ultrabase and a combo drive. If you want to add a DVD burner you could probably do that and still get a good deal because you'll still get the ultrabase for free with the combo drive. I may be wrong but I think it's more expensive if you were to buy a DVD burner and Ultrabase seperate.ImSeeker wrote:Thanks for your reply. Ok, I see the dock/ultrabase section, and actually I take back what I said earlier.
I'm in the most expensive X60, (2399), and it includes a dvd recordable, so that means it INCLUDES an ultrabase, (right?), and yet, under the dock/ultrabay options, I can:
ThinkPad X6 UltraBase [$199.00]
buy this.
So, how am I to know what I have or not have? I guess someone could argue, "that means you want TWO of them!", but really, this is all about just trying to figure out a complete package, and the configuration options do not help one understand what they are getting.

If the model includes a DVD recordable or a Combo drive then it ALSO includes an Ultrabase. IT HAS TO. Otherwise IBM/Lenovo would be tossing a drive into the package that you could not use.
I realize that you don't undestand all of the configuration options, but a lot of people do and can explain it to you. There is a reason for most (not all) of it. I didn't understand it a couple of years ago.
It can be confusing, but you are frustrating yourself for little reason.
My continued suggestion to you is that you post the configuration that you would like to end up with, and one of us will suggest a model or models that are the best overall value, or call Lenovo sales.
Forget about the model numbers for now, someone else will give these to you. Just focus on what you want with the notebook.
The only way to add some options to models that don't come with them is to buy them from the parts department after the sale.
It gets more complicated: with Think Express models, if you add memory, it is not installed for you, etc. Are you now more confused?
Since you are new to this forum, let me explain that this is a very unusual forum, in that people here are 99% + helpful. Nobody here will put you down, or belittle you. Very unusual indeed.

Ok, here goes:
I've been asked by a CEO of a company to get a replacement for their X30 system, which has an ultrabase (the item that clicks to the X30 to make it heavier, but adds stuff, like cd drives) as well as a dock (so that they can easily connect the whole thing in to an external keyboard/mouse/network/monitor.)
The point is ULTRALIGHT/ULTRAPORTABLE, but powerful AT HOME/WORK.
I'm planning on ordering either an X60 or X60s, don't really care which, except for the portability concept.
What I want is the most powerful system with the lightest weight for travel, along with the extras (ultrabase/dock) that make it an easy to use, just click and go - desktop replacement.
Price is not an object here - just the lightest, most powerful system with the right attachments when docked.
I can say more, but that's basically it.

X60s 170466U
Ultralight than X60
8cell--- longer battery life.
w/ ultrabase + combo
w/ verizon 3G
w/ IBM a/b/g wireless
80GB HDD
I just ordered two days ago...
but right now is absent on the web, I dont know why...
I guess I'm confused then - I thought the ultrabase was a separate item that clicked on the x60 and allowed you to carry a heavier computer that then included a slim device.floyyed wrote:ImSeeker wrote:does that include a docking station for external peripherals?
yes, it comes w/ a X6 ultrabase for sure.
I thought the docking station was something else separate that ALWAYS sat at your home/work area and had all the wires hooked into it. And that you then sat the X60/ultrabase into the docking station. Or, if you were carrying around the x60 without the ultrabase, you'd plug the x60 into the ultrabase that was left connected into the docking station stuff.
Does that make sense? I see this as THREE pieces of equipment (X60, ultrabase, docking station) - not two.
I'd call the docking station a port replicator, but my impression is that is yet again a different item for the thinkpads.
