Well, you answered your own question; you have to installed in your HDD.
There are multiple software out there that can read an ISO file containing the CD as it were a drive itself.
Two famous ones are Daemon Tools and Nero ImageDrive.

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

Try this software: Circle Virtual CD, I did a search and it turned up, I am gonna try it now for the same reason you need it.....

Here is a pretty small one that I found from Microsoft a while ago:

imo, the best way to do this is create images of the cd's using isorecorder and then mounting the iso's using daemon tools
Here - have this snippet of information as a gift from me:
As of the 3204 Patch, UT2004 no longer checks for the presence of your game CD in the drive. That effectively means the game now has a "built-in" No-CD patch, which means you don't need to download and install any other No-CD patches, executables or cracks from anywhere else.
Just go to the official UT2004 site for the free download - happy gaming!

It is probably not the most legal site arround but they should have all the patches to make your games run without the CD in the drive.

Re: I dont want to carry My CD's around!
I recommend the following:
FarStone Virtual Drive http://www.farstone.com
In the years I've been using it, there have been only TWO (yes, *2*) cd's it would NOT copy for me, and BOTH of them were physically cracked and were barely readable in the first place.
Everything else I've handed it, audo, data, & DVD's, is now a VCD on my hard drive, and with two mouse clicks I can have ANY of those VCD images "live" and ready to use... And with the "Auto-launch ProgramX on insert", all my DVD's auto-play when I click the VCD file, the games auto start, and I don't have to hunt for my driver cd's when I need to reinstall some obscure bit of code because the latest Windows security patch hjorked something ELSE that the other programs were dependant upon...
(laughing)
No, I don't work for FarStone, I'm just a VERY satisfied customer. <8-)
