9x5 on-site warranty extension vs. thinkpad protection?

#1 Post by bral » Mon Feb 13, 2006 7:35 pm

Hi guys, I'm new here. I'm currently pricing out a Thinkpad for work (2687D5U), and one thing that isn't clear to me is if I need to order both the 3yr 9x5 on-site warranty extension AND 3yr 9x5 on-site Thinkpad protection (IBM/Lenovo mfr # 41C9176 and 41C9340 respectively) to make sure I have on-site coverage in all cases. The Dells my company always buys with on-site coverage, and I want to make sure I'm covered similarly with the Thinkpad if we go with it. If would be awfully nice if "Thinkpad Protection" effectively upgraded the 3yr pickup/return warranty that comes with the laptop to on-site NBD status.

I'm going to try and get approval to purchase the Thinkpad, it's a very nice looking machine and has a great rep. Unfortunately we get steep discounts on Dells and almost none on Thinkpads, so I may have to use a lot of persuasion to get approval. ;-)

TIA!

unless things have changed, you will need both..
Thinkpad Protection is an insurance policy..
on site is, well, on site repair..
you with the former you will get protection even if you drop it down an elevator shaft..
with the latter you SHOULD get replacement ON SITE to the extent that that is possible..

Bill,

Thanks for the info. After cruising around on various sites I found a separate "part #" 41C9342 which is the two combined, for 3 years. Because the purchasing website I have to use (mandated by company policy here) is somewhat disfunctional it's hard to find anything without the part #. Thanks again.

EDIT: I called Lenovo today to confirm, and it is indeed all I needed to ensure 3yr on-site for any type of Thinkpad failure, including accident coverage.
