Windows Vista Feb CTP (5308) on X60. GMA 950 driver?

#1 Post by CokeBear » Sat Mar 04, 2006 12:37 pm

I just attempted to install the Vista build 5308 on an X60. Anyone know if Intel put published the Vista GMA 950 Graphics drivers? On Intel's webpage it said it was streamlined into the 5308 build. It doesn't seem to there!

The system seems to run fine. I was suprised how well it ran out of the "box". Without the video driver, I couldn't try out the Aero. For those that wants to run Vista in the future, get a lot of memory. A clearn install of 5308 had a memory foot print of over 400MB. This could be smaller in the final optimized version but I don't think it will be significantly less.

any dings in device manager? is WiFi working out of the box?

it appears that the 950 drivers should be in Build 5308, but it looks like only the desktop version according to this page:

The video card is the ding in device manager. The standard vga driver works okay. The wireless worked after dloading the latest updates.

Hmm, tried out Vista for the first time last night.

(I bought a 2nd SATA hard drive from Lenovo, just for this purpose.)

I installed onto a blank HDD.
A lot of drivers were not working an hour later.
Lucily the LAN drivers worked, so I plugged in.
Windows update ran, and hanged.
I rebooted and ran it again, it got better.

The mouse drivers seemed to want to re-install every time i rebooted.
My WLAN drivers were working, but they would not get an IP address from my router.
My WWAN drivers did not get installed - it kept trying and failing.

I then tried installing the ThinkVantage tools and totally screwed up the computer.

I may format the drive and try again tonight.
