Downloaded, installed, and it works. I have it running now. Since I did not update the wireless driver, I took the plunge and installed directly over 4.11a. It did its own uninstall and upgrade, and worked great first try. ... JD Hurst

Works well. Some new features for EV-DO activation and peer to peer functionality. Worked flawlessly. Required updates to ACPI, on-screen display, and intel wireless card driver. Seems faster.

This is very interesting.... it looks like the WAN Wireless support is now kicking! While most of those WAN wireless adapters are North America only types, the Vodafone 3G adapter is the same worldwide, so that's a small encouraging sign!

I'll download AC 4.12 later today and see if the Sierra driver also recognises my AirCard 580 (local 1xEV-DO standards).

Cheers,

Bill

- (Fix) Upgrade install from old version of Access Connections to 4.x shows

Is this meant to be a bug? I actually thought the QCTray was meant to show up after booting. At least, I've ticked "Show Thinkvantage Access Connections icon in task tray". Except that tray never shows up until I open up the Access Connections program.

Same behaviour on 4.11a and 4.12 :S

There is a table in the Access Connections documentation that shows the driver level required. My T41 already had the most recent Wireless NIC driver, so I just upgraded Access Connections and all worked well.

Exactly my thought. Hopefully we'll see a lot of support for various cards.

I'm having troubles installing. My profiles are greyed out. Tried to uninstall 3.81 and i get an error. Any way of re-installing 3.81 so then i might be able to remove it then try a fresh install of 4.21?
I can't find 3.81 to reinstall

I couldn't install 4.12 until I installed an available upgrade to the Download Manager. Then it went smoothly.

No problem here. Things went very smooth. I must say that I was a little frightened. 4.11 was my worst nighmare. I did not want those troubles again. This version is very nice.

I'm hoping when I come out of standby when using a wired lan it won't disconnect then reconnect. IMHO a really annoying bug.

Talon88,

Thanks for the download link. I was able to uninstall the old version and install the new one from scratch. I was still having trouble with it connecting with my AP. Changed the preamble from long only to short and long then bingo it worked.

Well been using it all weekend. I'm pretty happy. If only there was a painless way to pause or otherwise temporarily disable it from taking control of my network adapters I'd be a happy geek.

4.12 fixed my gripe: "(Fix) Upgrade install from old version of Access Connections to 4.x shows the QCTRAY help menu at bootup time." I am back up to 62 processes, however. Not that 1GB of RAM can't handle it, but 57 processes 'felt' so much better  Trade-offs, eh?

I am having a conflict that just doesn't go away. Every time I install AC newer than 3.81, I have a problem with Photoshop and it won't open all the way up. Program partially opens but splash screen never appears and you can’t use the program at all.

I think I've tried every version beyond 3.81 but this conflict won't go away and prevents me from using Photoshop. It's a disappointment since the newer versions of AC connect more quickly and overall performance seems to be better than the old 3.81. I don't seem to have any other problems/issues except for Photoshop not running.

I've tried just about every combination of install/uninstall that I could think of. I've uninstalled PS and attempted to re-install but the installation disc can't be read whenever a newer version of AC is on my machine. I end up doing a system restore and everything is back to “normal”.

Thanks for any suggestions.

#23 Post by mork » Tue Apr 25, 2006 1:17 pm

When i try to create a profile within active connections i get an error after pressing next (on screen where you enter profile name / what NICs to use)

AppName : acmaingui.exe
AppVer : 4.11.0.0
ModName : acon.dll
Modver : 0.0.0.0

I tried reinstalling both AC and the drivers for my wifi but still get same errors, would really like to get AC working so any ideas?

not all roses with 4.12

#24 Post by smap77 » Wed May 03, 2006 4:59 pm

I might be in a slightly different situation than most here because I installed 4.12 on 4/23 and then sent it in to EasyServ on 4/25 for a screen repair (a continuing nightmare, but not for AC reasons). My point is that I don't know what they might have done to the laptop while in their possession and I only noticed this when it returned. This is a t60p 2623-D8U.

Anyway, after installing AC 4.12 and back from EasyServ, Fn+F5 lists only Bluetooth and the Sierra Wireless WAN--the wireless LAN is not even in the list. When I open Access Connections, the connection manager says that there is 0% signal strength and that the connection is disconnected. The green Wireless LAN LED on the screen is on and it is undoubtedly working. It refuses to connect.

XP lists the "Intel(R) PRO?Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection" in the device manager and it thinks all is working fine.

Any ideas on how to "convince" AC that the Wireless LAN exists?

this is a REMOTE possibility for you, but..
is the antenna connected inside..
i.e. could easyserve (in their infinite ability to screw up) have forgotten to leave the antenna connections in place..?

Does Access Connections work at all? Does it detect access points? Does it allow you to connect to access points?
Are you trying to create a profile "from scratch" or from a connection that is running?

I am try to create a profile from scratch. I am not sure if it detects any acces points as i cant actually get to the screeen where you pick them. Also i noticed that with access connections installed if i turned on wifi and connected with windows WZC wifi would turn off after about 5 minutes, so i uninstalled access connections and it all was ok, however i would like to use access connections rather than WZC if i can get it to work!

With a good wireless card (the IBM Atheros 11 a/b/g is a good card - and there are others) and a recent version of Access Connections (I use 4.12), it will detect a wireless network from scratch. I have done that lots of times. You need to know any network parameters to get a connection, but it does work.

Dont know that the card is a problem as i use the one built into my TP t43 2668CTO and it works fine with window, there error i get seems to be with a DLL that is part of access connections.
Guess i will just have to stick with WZC and miss out on some of the nice features of access connections, hopefully in the next release (if there is one) it will work

Backing up to 3.8x

#30 Post by davidspalding » Fri May 05, 2006 6:10 pm

I can't seem to find the thread, but I remember that some folks were pinging for 3.x versions of AC. I'm going to try going back, since I'm %#*@ing sick and tired of AC forgetting which MAC address goes to which profile, and reassigning them each time I connect.

Searching my hard drive, i found install folders for versions 3.71, 3.81, 4.0, 4.11a, 4.12. WTF? Software Installer doesn't know how to supersede older versions? ... Well I guess I can't complain. :P

But anyone who wants Access Connections 3.82, it appears to be here:
