hi,
i have an A21m and yesterday i accidentally spilled some iced tea on just the top right hand corner of the keyboard area. i don't know if it was as i was wiping i pressed the button to turn it off, or it shorted, but less than ten seconds after the spill it turned off. i unplugged everything quickly and dried it as best i could, but it won't start up again. any advice? clean with ethanol, just let it dry, is it completely ruined?
i also read somewhere that all A, R, and X series thinkpads purchased after april 1999 (which mine was) are supposed to have water-resistant keyboards, any truth to that?
thanks so much in advance.

Oh man... that was unfortunated!
The first thing is to remove the keyboard a see the extend of the damage. And go deeper and deeper till you see no residue of the liquid.
You can use water in areas were you see the spill reached, but do not wet beyond the damage. Then, dry with a hair drier in COLD. Do not attept to turn it on until you have verefied that there is not wet spots anymore.
As you spilled, you should inmediatly unplug the cord and take the battery out. Even after a big spill, one can safe the laptop, the difference is the work that you have to put on the cleaning. However, if it shorted, well you know... Can you smell any any burned component?
Water-resistant keyboards means that a couple of drops into the keyboard won't go through into the motherboard however a spill is another matter.
