ActiveSync / Bluetooth (not working together)

#1 Post by stanford1 » Thu Jun 22, 2006 9:33 am

Hello: I have installed ActiveSync on my Z60T to connect my Tmobile MDA Pocket PC, but am unable to sync the device via Bluetooth. I have spent a total of ~8hrs on the phone and in live support sessions with Microsoft Mobile technicians attempting to configure the system, but nothing has worked and they are stumped.

Has anyone had any success in this area? I am frustrated beyond belief. Another thread suggests uninstalling/reinstalling the Bluetooth software, but I have no install disk and am not sure I should delete software. Any suggestions appreciated!

Both bluetooth xmitters active?

Can the laptop "see" the MDA at all? Vice versa?

Welcome to the Forums.

Thanks! Yes, both are active – a “partnership” is established between them. The problem is apparently between the ActiveSync software and the Bluetooth software.

The Bluetooth software allows me to specify that I want to use the ActiveSync service, but after the pairing the device does not list ActiveSynce as a service to use on the device. I have read on other forums that the device must recognize and provide “ActiveSync” as an option to select in the partnership settings for it to sync via Bluetooth. This was the issue the Microsoft techs were trying to solve.

After successfully pairing the MDA to the ThinkPad, the only services listed to use on the device are

1) Serial Port
2) Hands Free

(no ActiveSync)

Anyone have experience with this issue?

ActiveSync needs to establish a virtual COM/Serial port.

Yes, the Microsoft Mobile techs and I have established and reconfigured the comports hundreds of times, and nothing has worked. They are currently researching a solution, but it's looking hopeless.

Their only suggestion I haven't tried is to reinstall the Bluetooth software, but I don't have an install disk (didn't come with my system - should it have?). I don't know if it's possible to download that, or if it's even a wise course of action.

Hard to imagine that I'm the only one experiencing this problem since ThinkPads and MDA are popular gadgets.. argh!

You could always uninstall whatever software and drivers are being used now, then reboot and let XP reinstall everything from the I385 folder on your HD.

I remember having to do this when I installed the HotSync manager for my Tungsten PDA.

If all you need to do is run activesync, use the Microsoft bluetooth stack. They worked perfectly for me on an x30 with the BMDC IV (Hermes) and a Moto Q.

My problem with the MS drivers is that it won't support the HID profile so I can use the Q as a remote. The Widcom drivers work fine for that, but not for activesync.

So I only get one or the other for the time being.

The ROM update released by T-Mobile a few days ago solved this problem.

Firmware was broken? Ewww. Glad I didn't buy one for $300 and re-up with T-m, and instead got a free Nokia 6682 from Cingular.
2668-75U T43, 2GB RAM, 2nd hand NMB kybd, Dock II, spare Mini-Dock, and spare Port Replicators. Wacom BT tablet. Ultrabay 2nd HDD.
2672-KBU X32, 1.5GB RAM, 7200 rpm TravelStar HDD.

Free is good, but the MDA is loaded (some days I don't even need my laptop). Just wish it could handle Skype.

The only real limitation w/ T-mobile is their coverage isn't that great, but you have 14 days after purchase to determine if the coverage is acceptable, and their rates are significantly lower. Their are some occasions where I lose signal in urban areas though, which is frustrating.

I don't know if all laptops w/ bluetooth work as well as the Z60 but I am sync'ing in seconds now.
