caps/scroll lock onscreen widget thing?

#1 Post by zzyss » Fri Jul 21, 2006 11:14 am

On my TP, whenever you press one of the caps/scroll lock keys, a little white text box pops up in the bottom right saying "caps/scroll lock: ON/OFF" - does anybody know where this comes from and how I can turn it off?

I've already looked in on-screen display and display settings.

Check your "Add/Remove Programs" list for a Thinkpad Scroll Lock Indicator. If it's there, uninstall it.

Hi RonS

I don't see a connection between the Scroll Lock Indicator Utility and the white on-screen display which I think zzyss was referring to.

The Scroll Lock Indicator Utility toggles an indicator icon in the system tray when the ScrLk key is pressed (but what use is ScrLk these days, except perhaps in large Excel tables?).

When I first got my T60p a white CAPS LOCK ON text display used to pop up in the bottom-right corner of the screen (not in the system tray) when CapsLk was pressed. But, then it stopped appearing, though I found it quite useful. I've always had the Scroll Lock Indicator Utility installed, but, as I said, that doesn't affect it.

Hope you can elucidate further.

Er thanks... could you be a bit more specific? I tried looking in both Keyboard and Accessibility control panel widgets and neither of them have any method to control the display.

I've just discovered a useful feature of the ThinkVantage Keyboard Customizer Utility.
One can set the required duration of key press for certain keys. I've set Caps Lock to long press (1 sec.), so I'll no longer press it accidentally. But, it's there if ever I do want it.
Seems to me like the best of both worlds.

I started to get the same notifications for caps lock and num lock. It's pretty annoying, we already have LED indicators at the bottom of the screen for these two. Who needs a distracting popup thing for this. Moreover, who comes up with an idea that anybody would need this. :x

And it's not just that. I fiddled around with the windows task manager and found out who is responsible from this. Hold on tight ...

Yes that's right, if I kill this exe, I don't get the notification, if I start it again I get the notification. :x :x

I just can't believe this, what on earth the bluetooth software can have anything to do with a these notification
