contrary to reports, ALL of florida did not blow away when Charley came through..
all we got here on the eastern side were a few really nice gusty rain bands..
the reason i have not been present, here, and on email, as usual is that, together with much work on thinkpads.com, working to elect a county commissioner and the usual personal business, my wife, the dred red head was hit head on, on I95 and is in the hospital, since aug 5th..
to see a few pics, go to
http://www.billmorrow.com
it appears that the driver who crashed into her, head on, was drunk, driving without a valid license, lied to the police by trying to say the driver had run away and he was only a passenger, gave a bad address and has no insurance coverage..!
:(
<sigh>
so, i have a lot on my plate these days..

thanks to all of you.. :D
such messages DO give her spirits a lift..

right now, after the C2 fracture was discovered last saturday, she is in some sort of "Miami Brace" which has her neck immobilized..
most of the pain has subsided for now while several specialists dicide on the best treatment..

i'll be updating her condition and the details of crash as i learn them and then update the billmorrow.com web site..

thanks guys.. :)

the consensus of opinion between three ortho neuro surgeons and about three orthopeadic guys along with several other physicians is that the prognosis is excellent with full recovery..
wear the miami vest collar thing for 12 weeks and let the fracture heal..
then PT and that should be it..! :D

in short the prognosis is excellent..
lots of pain descending into discomfort and finally recovery..

so today her spirits are high and she will soon move from ICU to PT ...

Bill,

My thoughts and prayers are with you for a complete and speedy recovery of your wife.

When bad things like this happen to good people, it's comforting to know that others are thinking of you..

Godspeed!

thanks guys..

saw her today..

the brace she wears 24/7 was a bit of a shock..

but after a while it was part of the landscape..

when i tell her she has the prayers and good thoughts of people from constantinople to sydney going both ways she asks who..?

and then i explain that she is known as the dred red head..
thats when i get that slightly crooked smile that endears her so much to me.. :D

again, thanks..

Bill,

Best of wishes to you and your wife, I hope you get this matter resolved as cleanly as possible and that drunk SOB is punished to the maximum extent of the law.

Its sad to see such a great car as the Avalon (I drive a white '96 XLS that looks almost identical to the one she drove) destroyed like that....but on the other hand it's good to see that it provides a great deal of protection (your wife is really lucky to have survived).

Again, hope everything works out and Caroline has a quick and complete recovery!

the consensus of opinion on the avalon is that it did its job..
co-workers who were stuck in the traffic jam caused by this crash and who did not know it was caroline in the car told her later that they all figuered that the driver was dead..
further, she just returned from hiking with a bunch of dentists in austria in the alps..
(on of whom is a scot who lives in the northernmost spit of land in scotland, BTW)..
that and pilates twice a week keep this redhead in good shape..
so, a hard body and a whole lot of the luck of the irish kept her alive..

now for a long healing..

THANK YOU to all for the good wishes and thoughts.. :D

Hurricane Frances

#25 Post by JaneL » Fri Sep 03, 2004 1:17 pm

Bill and the birds have battened down the hatches and are preparing for a hurricane party with Frances as the special guest. He asked me to "let the forum know i am still alive and well even though i have been absent without leave for the past week..". He'll be back once Frances has left town and any power/communications gets restored.
