The thing they are talking about is that somehow some of the IBM software has a bug with the trackpoint that makes a software generated pixel error appear.
When I received my IBM X41 it had one dead pixel to the right of the screen. (this was not due to some bug).
I had read somewhere that rubbing the area gently could case the red pixelerror to dissappear (it might just go black and die totally) and I was lucky that it started working correctly... no black dead pixeldot. I just rubbed it with my finger and a piece of cloth.
A few months later the pixelerror appeared again. I touched it very softly and it disappeared but came back after 1 hour or so.
Then I decided to take a woolen stick (those for cleaning ears and so) and rubbed in circles a bit more firmly in the area around and on the pixelerror. It disappeared and since then I haven't seen it.
But be careful... you can case even more pixel errors to appear if you are unlucky or not treating your screen gently enough.
Good luck with it.
