Adjust Fan Control

#1 Post by Hornnumb2 » Mon Jan 22, 2007 3:57 pm

Is there a way to set it so the fan will run all the time, or a way to adjust the preset degrees..Wouldn't cooler be better? It is running on a T30..Thanks

Despite all the emotion in here, on my A22e, T23, T30 and now T41, the fan runs best on ThinkPad Default. If the CPU needs cooling, the fan will run (otherwise there is a hardware problem). If the CPU is cool enough, the fan will run on low (my fan on any ThinkPad has never, ever turned completely off, and I think it would be exceedingly foolish to turn it off). ... JD Hurst

I am not so sure. Anyhow, I am still glad that tpfancontrol lets me turn off the fan at 45'C, instead of the BIOS default 38'C. A dead quiet machine is priceless to me, even if I am making a fool of myself.

I said what I said not to tell people what to do (it doesn't matter to me), but because a CPU (especially a warm one) can increase in temperature in a second or so. So if the fan is turned off, how does that help. It takes longer for the fan to spin up from stopped and start moving air than it does for the CPU to heat. I have watched my CPU get hot real fast with Mobile Meter. Unlike so many others, my T41 is very quiet, so having the fan on low is no big deal to me.
