Your Vista Performance Scores

#1 Post by absolut 0 » Mon Jan 29, 2007 11:01 am

Hello,

I thought it'd be fun to have a thread for everyone to share their performance scores in Vista. I don't have Vista yet, but I expect my performance scores to be somewhere around the following:

Processor: 4.7
RAM: 5.0
Graphics: 4.3
Gaming: 4.7
HDD: 5.0

Don't forget to leave your hardware specs too!
Thinkpad T60p Widescreen (8742c6u)
2.33GHz 4MB 667MHz Core 2 Duo (T7600)
2GB PC2-5300 DDR SDRAM
15.4" WSXGA+ (1680x1050)
ATI MOBILITY FireGL V5250 (256mb)
100GB 7200RPM Hard Drive

On my T43 w/Vista Business:
Processor: 3.9 (2.0GHz PM)1
Memory: 4.5 (1GB)
Graphics: 2.0 (X300 64MB + 255MB)
Gaming Graphics: 3.2
Primary HDD: 5.1 (Hitachi 7K100 100GB)

Aero Glass looks pretty cool and everything works great in the mini-dock hooked up to a Dell 2405FPW 24" LCD.

FWIW, I did an upgrade from my previous XP SP2 install.
Maybe this weekend I'll get around to doing a clean install.

Also, all the updated Lenovo software & drivers I've tried works.
Specifically, the new finger print software and keyboard utilities.

Did you get Aero Glass work on your T43 with a SXGA screen??

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... +x300+aero

I think they were trying to tell me 128mb "on-board" memory is necessary for Aero on a SXGA screen.. Can you confirm it please? Thanks!

Gart: Just curious - what graphics card are you using?

dfumento: That is an impressive graphics score for integrated graphics. My roommate has a z60m with an ATI x300 and it only gets a rating of 2.0 for Vista graphics!

I'm using an ATI MOBILITY FireGL 5200.

Don't know what to tell you except the numbers keep changing too. One day I run the number program and it comes out to an even 4.0, and the next it's a 4.3. I just ran it again and it's a 4.2.

Go figure. Probably because my laptop's been on for 3 days straight and needs a reboot.

What version of Vista do you recommend on a Thinkpad A20m Pentium 3 M 850mhz?

Save your money and buy a more powerful machine. You will not be able to run Aero on that machine, and it will be painfully slow.

I assume I'm running Aero as transparency works, the 3d windows sort works and the various thumbnails all work. Also, I've run it on my laptop LCD SXGA (1400x1050) and on my external dell LCD @ 1920x1200 via DVI. Display-wise, everything seems to work really well.
One thing that's REALLY nice is ATI.com has Mobility Radeon drivers!!! They used to basically tell you tough luck and get them from your OEM provider. Not anymore, which was really nice as the drivers from Microsoft wouldn't allow me to only use my external 1920x1200 monitor (it would keep both LCD's on, regardless of the settings). The new ATI drivers released a couple days ago fixed that.

BTW, I'm using the official Vista Business release.

I have a T60 part#195144U

Overall score is 3.4

The gaming graphics are my lowest overall score at 3.4. I have to reboot to get all of my results. I was pleasantly surprised that the Intel GMA 950 was giving me such high scores. I also have an HP tha tuses an x200 and I only scored a 2.4.
THis is on RC2 Ultimate edition. I should be getting my full copy of RTM of utlimate shortly.

All benchmark programs are like that. The right way to do it is to average multiple (say 10) trials.

i think there comes a point when its just plain not worth it and vista on a p3 850mhz is probably that time tbh.

Chris,

I have a 20" Dell running 1600x1200 over DVI with the new Advanced Mini Dock and it works perfectly. I've read similar things about not being able to have high resolutions over DVI, but I have never had an problems. I'm not sure if it is different with the T42 and the older dock (does it work with the new dock).

As far as performance scores, they seem to fluctuate a lot, but I noticed that my score dropped when attached to the external display. When I installed and ran Vista away from the dock and display I was able to get a 4.0 for gaming graphics, but when attached only a 3.8. I tested it multiple times while attached and the score remained at 3.8. I'm assuming that Vista takes the higher resolution into account for the performance score.

RAM is his main problem, with hard disk a distant second. And IIRC, you can't go over 512MB on that system (but it HAS been a long time since I have even seen one). 1-2GB is the sweet spot for Vista.

VISTA performance article here:
http://www.anandtech.com/systems/showdoc.aspx?i=2917

Long story - all is about on par w/ XP except the graphics drivers, which are about 30% slower in OpenGL. This WILL improve as Nvidia and ATI get off their collective A$$es.

In beta 2 (my copy of business hasn't arrived yet) I get an overall score of 3.4. Quite impressive actually. I am curious to see how much it goes up when I add a 7200rpm drive and go to a full 2 gigs of RAM.

It probably won't go up at all..
I suspect that the 3.4 is the graphics, and the overall score is always the lowest score.. :(

Interestingly enough, I have the FireGL T2 card which has 128MB of RAM yet Vista is reporting 256. Weird.

The last 128MB is shared/stolen from your system RAM when needed to show textures..

interesting. sucks that they base the graphics score on video card memory... the firegl T2 is just a radeon 9600 in disguise (a quick bios flash on the vid card) with 2x the video memory :P I'd be [censored] if that was preventing me from running aero, but it isn't so oh well.
