T23 Volume Control Buttons

#1 Post by tdlpad » Wed Feb 28, 2007 9:00 pm

I recently acquired a T23 and am finding my way around with it. Everything seems to be working ok except for the gray volume up/down and mute buttons. I can control the volume with the speaker tray icon but nothing shows on the screen when I press the volume buttons. The Thinkpad button works fine. All of the hardware devices appear to be functioning and I have loaded all of the drivers I believe. Any ideas?

Try uninstalling the driver before reinstalling. That should fix it.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

I also had no on screen display of my volume or brightness, then when I started using Software Installer, it said there was an update available for the OSD driver, which I took. Suddenly I have the on screen displays of volume, mute and brightness and you can change the color of the display too.

I uninstalled drivers and reinstalled with Software Installer but no success. I have onscreen display for brightness and other hot keys are all working except the volume + - and mute. I am thinking it must be a keyboard issue instead of a driver software problem. Thanks for the suggestions.

Hey, I never thought OSD would be a feature for my T23, thanks for the info folks !

BTW, I wonder what the 'Thinkpad' button to the left of the volume controls does...maybe link to ibm.com? Mine does nothing...

Mine does nothing too, actually I have heard what that button linked to was a joke. Stick with this forum, it is more knowledgeable than IBM.

Thank you for the new information, I wish there was one for my T22

EDIT: Poop, I found the Online User's Guide for the T22 and it is not supported by Windows XP.

Just a little more info on my volume problem. When I open the volume controls from the system tray and click on mute or unmute the onscreen volume display appears for a couple seconds before disappearing. I also tried using the customizing keyboard feature to configure another key for the volume + ,- buttons but that did not work either. Puzzling...................

Are there any cables or such under the buttons that could be loose?

Buttons are integrated into the keyboard and there is only one connector that mates the keyboard to the motherboard in the T2x systems.

I guess I spoke too soon. Controls not working again. Noticed they weren't working after I downloaded all of the updates for WinXP. Coincidence or............. Irritating to say the least.........................

[censored] that windows xp

#17 Post by furiousmonkey » Sat Mar 03, 2007 11:31 am

[censored] that winXP, I have a 1300i with wireless interenet, works great until you do the updates from microsoft then it cannot seem to find any wireless contectors.

Somewhere it is a driver software error, one of those random things that only happens to one person in a million!

My suggestion, seems tedious unless someone else has a better one, you have to reinstall windows and download the updates one at a time until you find the one that is causing the malfunction.
