Adding Bluetooth & antenna void warranty?

#1 Post by sswany » Sat May 22, 2004 4:56 pm

I'm looking a 2378-DHU (good price, does everything I want it to), but I'm wondering if adding Bluetooth & the antenna to it (the HMM says it doesn't have one) if it voids the warranty. I would just purchase it with the laptop, but there isn't an option.

Thanks

The Bluetooth card is a customer replaceable unit, so adding it shouldn't void the warranty. But, the antenna isn't a CRU and by opening the LCD frame you could be voiding the warranty.

The HMM says that only units that ship with Bluetooth have the antenna, I'm not sure if this is the case. I have a 2373-91U which doesn't have Bluetooth, but I've taken out the modem card and underneath is the Bluetooth antenna wire.

Also, I've seen on eBay people selling the Bluetooth card with an antenna that you place under the keyboard, that way you don't have to void your warranty.

I think it's quite possible that this is the case with the 91U because it's the only SXGA+ display T40 that didn't ship with the bluetooth combo daughtercard installed.

FWIW, my 8CU has the bluetooth antenna installed, or at least it has the antenna lead installed. I haven't opened the display to look for the antenna itself.

I just don't want to buy one that doesn't have the antenna already installed and then void my warranty by installing it myself.

Bluetooth and antenna

Ordered the T42 23733VU which has no Bluetooth. Don’t seem to have the antenna pre installed either.
I was thinking about buying the Modem/Bluetooth and the antenna from IBM, but is like the guy starting this post also concerned about the warranty, when popping open the lcd display.
To you guys’ having a T4x, is there any possibility to just leave the antenna underneath the keyboard? Cant see why this shouldn’t work if there is some spare room.
