T61 Price Drop!

#1 Post by Redmumba » Mon May 28, 2007 9:28 am

So I logged on this morning, checked the price of the T61... apparently, its dropped about $50! I have no idea if its just because its memorial day, but I'm thinking of cancelling my current order and re-ordering it with the discounted price...

Original: Shareholder + Memorial Day = $1454
Now: $1408

I approve! :)

why are people so quick to cancel their orders. Just call and get them to adjust the price. If you're worried they'll change the prices tomorrow then save it as a quote and print a copy with the customer number and order number.

Just remember that you can only adjust the price once and the quotes are good for a month. I ordered right before the memorial day sale. I saved a quote when the memorial day sale came out which would have lowered the price of my t61 about $80. I created another quote today which will lower the price of my computer $160 from its original price, but I'm going to wait til my order ships to actually adjust it.

That is interesting. How do you go about adjusting price with a quote? Should I simply call Lenovo and reference the confirmed order and the new quote number?

I placed an order for T61 on 5-18 and comparing to current sale price, for the same configuration, the difference is around $80... almost compensates for the sales tax if this can be adjusted.

This is what I was told to do by lenovo. I ordered mine on 5/11 and the prices changed a few days after that. I then called up asking to adjust the price and the rep told me to do this and then call back when my order has shipped. I then called the specific sales rep I dealt with just to make sure. He then created a price protection quote and told me that this quote was good for a month and that I should wait to adjust because I could only adjust it once.

Clever, I didn't know they would allow you to do that, much less promote it. I'm still a bit unsure... I don't want to wait 3 months for my laptop. :( Why do the T60p's have to cost significantly more than the 61? /cry

Does anyone know how much time you have to do a price quote? 1 month after your initial order date? 3 months?

International warranty vs domestic warranty, longer warranty in most cases, and better more expensive displays.

I wrote over at notebookreview. com last week about this price drop coming (i work at ibm), but nobody belived me LOL
I also stated that a better sale is coming in a couple of months this summer and should have better selection.
Nobody needs to panic to get a T61 that's for sure.

If it's your money you're spending, and you aren't in a rush, then wait.

What bugs me is that the sale today is different than the "Memorial day" sale up to this point. This may be a one day markdown, with pre-sale prices coming back tomorrow. I guess we'll see after midnight.

Sounds perfect :) I'll give this is a try when (if) my order ships. Right now, there appears to be some confusion if these pushed back shipping estimates are a bug in Lenovo's system or if it was their ploy to rope in a sizeable number of orders and then inflate their shipping time. :?

@SkiBunny: Know if the X61 will go on sale at some point during the summer? I just pulled the trigger on an X60, but I'd really like the X3100 graphics card if I can get a similarly insane deal (25% + LEGITIMATE EPP + TailorMade = score).

Also, is there some internal (w3.ibm.com?) site that shows the sales schedule etc? Or do you actually work in sales/Lenovo? Feel free to PM me the response to this question rather than posting it out here. Bluepages on my username brings me up.

I'm in ibm not lenovo and not marketing. I dont know what will be included or excluded in the summer sale. I don't know of any internal site that provides specific sale details, that I have access to. I only know a site that provides current inventory info or ETA and cost.

There's talk that the X61 will be order-able on or about June 1.
