T22 HD Upgrade

#1 Post by Speeder.dk » Thu Jun 14, 2007 6:47 am

Hey

I know this topic has been discussed before, but I'm a bit confused now when I want to replace my harddrive in my T22 2647-4EG...
I've found a Hitachi 7K100 80GB hd, with 44-pin... I then counted the pins on my current original IBM/Hitachi 20GN harddrive and it has 47-pins ??
Does that mean anything? Or can I just replace the hd with no worries (have read the other posts about it)

PS. Does my T22 support U-ATA133 ?

I'm sure someone with more indepth knowledge will correct me if I'm wrong. PATA/IDE drives are listed as 44 pins even though in fact there may only be 43 physical pins on the drive, plus 4 other pins off the side (hence your count of 47 pins) which are to set the device/cable (master/slave). The missing pin is meant to help locate the cable connector in the right orientation - if the connector has the appropriate mating hole blocked. This is not the case with the Thinkpad HDD connector so in theory you can get the orientation wrong but physically it's not possible because of the orientation of the drive bay and the HDD enclosure.

So, the short answer is that it should be OK.

As for UATA, it's not supported unless you get an external enclosure and link through via USB/PCI, or an internal Ultrabay adapter. So in that case you're limited by the speed of the link.
Cheers

Roger that, no worries with the new drive. Here's the pinouts on your old drive

Check the tawbook.pdf for your model for the max ATA mode. Ciao
