In the past two days or so, I've noticed that anytime I use Fn+F3 to blank my screen, it does not want to stay lit when I start to use my machine again - the screen goes blank after 1-2 sec. I then have to keep my mouse moving or push keys on my keyboard to keep the screen active.
I looked at the post linked here, but it doesn't exactly seem to solve my problem.
What's more, I have noticed that after I press Fn+F3, my current power scheme is "corrupted": the settings for "Turn off monitor" and "Turn off hard disk" is blank for both Batteries and AC.
See attached image > http://img2.freeimagehosting.net/image. ... b207ad.jpg <
However, if I change the power scheme using Battery Maximizer Wizard or using Control Panel > Power Options, the blanking issue disappears, and my monitor functions normally. After selecting an interim power scheme, I can re-select the original scheme with no loss of functionality.
Sure, one can say I can use this workaround to restore monitor functionality to my machine, but I lose the Fn+F3 blanking capability that I want.
I recently installed Microsoft Office 2007. Has anyone experienced this issue with MSO 2007 installed? Anyone in general?
I use version 1.43 of Lenovo's power management driver, version 8.133.2.1.1-061116a-040094C of Lenovo's ATI Radeon driver (for a 128MB 9600 series model) and version 1.38 of Lenovo/IBM's Battery Maximizer Wizard.
Thanks =)
Fn+F3 & Power Schemes Corruption - Blanking Issues
You might see if either of the solutions in this thread will fix your problem.

BTW, I am using the same power management driver, video driver and battery maximiser software versions as you, and do not have this problem.

I followed the steps in the post you linked to, beginning with SFC and reinstalls of the Lenovo components. I then removed the contents of the PowerCfg registry key, and ran the "powercfg /RestoreDefaultPolicies" command, which restored the PowerCfg hive to its factory configuration settings
Then came the moment of truth .. I used Fn+F3 ... and my monitor still blanks after 1-2 seconds of being reactivated =( (and I must switch to an alternate scheme, such as "Disable Shut-Off Timers," to gain normal monitor functionality, before returning to my default scheme).
So, in short, that didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

UPDATE
So...
after nearly 30-45 minutes on the phone with Lenovo Tech Support, the tech I spoke with gave me two options. The first was to accept paid assistance from someone who specializes in software configurations and the second was to reformat my drive in order to rule out hardware issues as the possible cause of my problem. The tech even said he thought the problem was software-related...
I told him I didn't want to do either, because I'm hoping that I can find assistance for such a minor issue for free. So for now, I guess it's back to your suggestions and Google... anyone?
