Searching for one Key-mechanic of any R50 keyboard.

#1 Post by Axel » Tue Oct 26, 2004 4:26 am

Hi folks. :-)

I have a defect key on my R50P keyboard.

At IBM i can only find finde complete keyboards. :-(

I had the possibility to get an old IBM Thinkpad keyboard, but tthe key-mechanic didn't fit.
So i expect it must be a quite new one, from R50/51(p) or T40/41/42/(p) or so.

I made some pictures of the parts:
Picture1 (klick to zoom):
At the marker "2" you can see what i mean. There is a white part inside, which has two small sticks at the sides. Marker "3" shows such a pin.

Picture2 (klick to zoom):
Here you can see those small parts. Marker "4" shows a correct pin, marker "3" shows the defect side, where the pin is missing.

Maybe somebody has this small part(s) and can send it to me somehow?

Would be really happy if so. :D

Personal opinion based on having spent many frustrating hours trying to repair a similar keyboard - forget it.

Just buy a new kepboard - they aren't that expensive.

Of course if you can find the parts (only available from another user with a salvage keyboard), and have several free hours, and have really good eyesight, and a good set of tweezers, and are feeling really lucky you might be able to fix it. Or you might not. Depends on whether you succeed in getting it to go together right before you break the tabs off the new parts.

Hi egibbs,

thanks for replying.

Yes, you're right, i have to search for a used keyboard. :-)

But it's not that complicated to repair it.
It's just a question of minutes.
I did it twice, because i exchanged my damaged mechanic (key "B") with another key, which i don't need so often.

It's really easy.

So i'm still in good hope that someone in the whole world has something for me. ;-)

Regards,
Axel
