How to tell if a desktop LCD monitor has a IPS screen?

#1 Post by SaberX » Thu Sep 27, 2007 7:39 am

I buddy of mine is looking to replace his old 19" CRT desktop monitor. He's looking at getting something like a 22" LCD wide screen.
I was just wondering how someone can find out what LCD will have the IPS screen in it.
If he's looking to spend about 300.00 to 400.00 for a screen,he might as well get a nice one.

You just check.

For the record, there are no 22" LCDs that are IPS. All of them are TN, except the Lenovo L221x, that's being released now (PVA).

IPS screens are available in 20"-21" (wide and non-wide) and very few 19" and 23" models. 24" are PVA, so are 27".

Several 19" models and really few 17" models are also MVA/PVA.

All Apple Cinema displays use IPS screens.

Thanks
I'll check out Apple.
On another note,Does anyone have a good web site explaning the diffrent types of LCD panels out there?
Like the IPS ones, the TN screens and the PVA screen's.

I just want to "know my stuff" when my buddy gets me out shopping for a screen for him.

Well, there's always Wikipedia.

I am not going to say this is the best information available by any means, but it is a starting point.

Once a member on this forum posted this:

Run the model numbers through this site to see what panel is in them:
