T30 -> T41 cdrom drive compatible?

#1 Post by vibraliner » Mon Nov 19, 2007 7:54 pm

are floppy/cd/dvd/etc drives compatible between these T30 & T41?

family coming into town, planning on replacing t41 system board, due to battery that won't charge. Hardware maintenance manual calls for using a floppy to flash the eeprom once the new board is installed. Don't have a floppy drive for the T41.

If that doesn't work, I'll try to boot off an ipod with the maintenance floppy image.

Anyone have any advice/input?

The T30 uses ultrabay plus drives, the T41 uses ultrabay slim. They are not compatible.

The maintenance disk will only work from a real floppy. If you boot from an image from a different device, it won't unlock the eeprom. I use a USB floppy.

You can use an USB floppy.

So a thumb drive or a cd won't work?
I don't want to buy a USB floppy just for this purpose. Any other ideas?

Thanks in Advance

You can get a USB attached floppy drive for few dollars on eBay. :roll:
