IBM Removed features from new Site

#1 Post by jhrain » Tue Nov 16, 2004 7:55 pm

IBM removed a critical feature from their new Support Site. There is no way to go do downloads and view by newest (or most recent available download).

I support various models of ThinkPads. I often quickly visit the site to see if anything new has been released, then jump to a totally different model. To my surprise, that feature is now missing.

When I e-mailed IBM (feedback), they informed me that no one used that feature and it has been abandoned in favor of the newer and better site.

??????????

Is it just me, or wasn't that one of the nicest features of their site? Something that again set them apart from DELL?

If anyone in this forum has connections at IBM, please suggest they put this back in.

Sincerly,
JIM

I thought the same thing. If you go to downloads, expand it ALL, then use the Explorer back arrow, it might come back to the date-arranged list. It has for me, and I still like and use that. IBM has never figured out how to use and interpret focus and test groups. I can't believe that no one ever used the date-arranged list. But I do believe that IBM thinks no one does.

Provide Feedback to IBm

#3 Post by jhrain » Wed Nov 17, 2004 1:15 pm

I spoke to a friend at IBM. Right now they are reading every single site feedback they get, and they are delivering this feedback to management. It's getting a great deal more attention since the site was recently redesigned.

I've had four friends provide feedback, maybe if people who rad this do the same it would help. It couldn't hurt.

I did supply some feedback, but don't hold your breath. They got rid of the IBM forums, they got rid of the personalized machine inventory capability, they got rid of the personalized support web page, and now a reasonable listing approach. I'm not sure client opinions matter any more to software vendors. ... JDHurst

i totally agree..

the new ibm web site SUCKS..

i would have given ibm a pass if the info was still there but was only more difficult to find..
now, if it IS there it is impossible to find..

I totally agree with jdhurst,

it is a systematic killing of service-to-client-focus, and it will cut them of their market's response to their products...

AND IBM let the ThinkPad Advisory group die after 911..
they never had a meeting after that..
with palmisano, an old ibm'er, now in charge it seems that some of the good ideas gerstner had have retired along with him..

Does all this now make more sense in light of the plans to sell IBM PC to Lenovo? :P
