Error 1802

#1 Post by lemmerdeur » Thu Jan 24, 2008 1:15 am

I purchase a Atheros AR5006xs super AG mini PCI card 108Mbps for my T30. The seller said just to update the Bios and the embeded controller but that didn't make the trick. I am trying for the last 2 days to download the ISO to burn it to a CD but I can't open the file. I tried with WinZip, WinRar and 7-Zip but each one give me an error.
Could someone give me an other link or email it to me directly if handy.
Thank you in advance.

If you have a floppy drive for your T30, you can also get a floppy version.
If you downloaded the .ISO file, you need a CD-burning program, with which you burn the ISO onto a CD. In Nero Express you would choose Disk Image and select that ISO file.
You can download a free burning program here: http://cdburnerxp.se/

I do have a floppy drive but I didn't understand exactly how to proceed with the DOS version. Do I also need a program to copy it to the floppy?

Lemmerdeur is not from Friesland, it is from Belgium and it means the pain in the but. The reason is that I always want to know more and asked a lot of questions. The correct spelling in french is : l'emmerdeur

You will need a bootable floppy (from e.g. windows 95/98/ME).
If you don't have one, you can make it yourself with the first download from this website: http://www.bootdisk.com/
You just copy the no-1802.com file onto it, boot from that floppy, and then from the A:\> prompt you type in: no-1802.com and hit enter.
Remove the floppy, and boot normal from HD again.

RealBlackStuff,
I am trying to make a bootable floppy. I choose the 1st download on the web site you recommended and downloaded boot 500 winimage self extractor file. I insert a blank floppy in my drive and run the program. I have an error: «Disk error on track 2, head 0, error in reading» I tried 3 floppies and all the same. Is the problem my drive or the floppies? Also I run Windows XP pro SP2 is the download the correct one?
Thank you in advance for the help.

Floppy and ISO image can be found here, you can boot it either from floppy or a CD.

No kidding, pain in the [censored] eh?

Have you tried to Format the floppies? Have you tried more than three? How old are the floppies? Have you ever used the floppy drive, how recent? Do you have any floppies with information already on them and have you inserted them into your drive to see if they are read (since it's reporting a "read" error)? Have you tried any of the floppies your attempting to write to into another floppy drive on another computer.....

If, after all that hooplah you get the same error then I'd say the floppy drive is needing adjustment, cleaning or replacement. You won't find a floppy drive cleaning kit at your local retail store so a little rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) on a Q tip and a few gentle swipes inside the drive might be all it takes. If it's an UltraBay drive try reseating it in the bay. If you fail to get successful results I'd suspect the drive is out of adjustment but I'll wait and see how the other results come out before I jump into that deep dark pit of information overload.

I downloaded the DOS 5 bootdisk and it overwrote an already full floppy on my hosen boxen so the file isn't corrupt. Try a few of my suggestions before dire panic takes over. K?

As phool@round already mentioned, most likely your floppy drive is out of whack.
The operating system you are running on the laptop is irrelevant when you boot from a floppy, the laptop will then run the OS of the floppy.
For the no-1802 program to run, all it needs is a minimal DOS, regardless of how old. It does not touch what you have on the HD.
It just wants to set 1 bit in the BIOS. Look at the size of that program, 18 bytes (* 8 bits = 144 bits). It's written in Assembler, as close to the 'core' as you can get.
If Micro$haft had written that program, it would probably need around 400MB!

Thank you to all of you.
I had to try 24 floppies to find one that will copy without error. I then copied and paste the no1802 file to the floppy. I rebooted my T30 thru F12 and external drive, inserted the floppy and when prompted typed no-1802.com and it gave me a bad command so I typed the name of the file I copied, no1802 and it seemed to worked. I installed my PCI card and booted the T30 normanly and got an error stating that I have more then one Ethernet device found. I don't want to disconect the modem card as I connect thru the phone line from home, DSL from work and hope wifi when on the road. So what should I do and how.

Can I fix the Problem with error 01C9 with a floppy or do I have to do it with a CD? I tried to extract the rar. the file from thinkwiki.org on a floppy but it says the floppy is full. I only have to remove 01C9 as error 1802 is gone now.

You need to burn the 01c9 file (which is an .ISO) onto a CD, select it as an image in your burning program.
You can't open those ISO files with Winrar!

But if that error shows up at boot time, just press the Esc button and it will continue as normal. My T30 does the same, and connects to the web like a champ!

Ok, I downloaded the no 1802 zip file from tikki..., extracted it with winzip to a new folder. Now I have a file called wifi.iso My question is how do I open it before burning it on a CD. I am using Nero and made sure it is on the .iso command. When I burn it on the CD as-is, it isn't open. How do I have to proceed?

In Nero, select Copy and Backup. Under it will be an icon of a burning match with 'Burn Image to Disc'.
In Nero Express, you select 'Disc Image or Saved Project'.
The burning part of Nero will unpack the ISO in its proper files and structure during burning.
Stop trying to unpack/unzip/unrar those ISOs!
