Advanced Doc & Lenovo ATI X1300 PCIe - Any experience?

#1 Post by algous » Thu Jan 31, 2008 7:03 am

I would like to drive my 30-inch monitor (which has 2560x1600 WQXGA resolution) with ThinkPad T60 or T61 connected to Advanced Doc with recommended Lenovo ATI X1300 PCIe graphics adapter inside.

I know that some members of this forum tried to get working solution with other graphics adapters and they was a poor success.

Has anybody tested Lenovo ATI X1300 PCIe graphics adapter inside of Advanced Doc with special Lenovo X1300 driver for ThinkPad Advanced Dock installed?

as far as i read you can drive a LCD with the regular mini-dock with the built in card. Don't take my word for it tho :)

SHoTTa35,

I searched deeply this forum (and some others too) and found that ThinkPad's with graphics cards such as ATI V5200, NVIDIA FX 570M and NVS 140M can run 30 inch monitor to be connected to Mini-Doc.

But I plan to purchase ThinkPad T60 UT0QPRT (because of FlexView screen) which has ATI X1400 graphics adapter. I've never seen any messages from owners of ThinkPad's with ATI X1400 confirmed that they can run 30" monitor via Mini-Doc. Though I believe it would be best solution for me.

well i'm not 100% but it should be able to drive that LCD. The post from Ron said he could use the mini-doc to those resolutions but as you said he was using a T60p. I don't think the card is that much more powerful so i would try it :)

I think you'll need the advanced dock and a PCI-E graphic card that has a Dual Link DVI port. It doesn't matter if the X1400 is powerful enough or not. The fact that it doesn't have the Dual Link DVI port makes it unable to hook up to a 2560x1600 display. Via VGA port maybe?

For more information, please take a look at this thread.
The max resolution for single-link DVI is 1920x1200

I've a Lenovo ATI X1300 PCIe graphics adapter inside my advanced Dock.

Its connected by DVI to a 1920X1200 monitor 1 and 1600X1200 to monitor 2.

It works well.

P.S. There is no special Lenovo X1300 driver for ThinkPad Advanced Dock . The only driver for it is below:

From what I've understood, it is necessary to have a Dual Link DVI port to connect to a WQXGA monitor. Unfortunately, neither the T60 nor the Advanced Dock has it. However, you can put a PCI-Express graphic card inside the dock to use the Dual Link DVI port of the card.

Great information! Please answer folowing questions:

* Which of ThinkPad's do you have and what graphics adapter is in it?
* What is maximum resolution shown in Presentation Director?
* What is a version of your graphics adapter drivers?

I believe you are mistaken.
Please see a link
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-68887
"The X1300 graphics adapter driver radeonx1300_8391.exe is customized for the X1300 to support the ThinkPad Advanced Dock. This release can also support the X1300 to work with desktop system. It is not recommended to use this driver if the X1300 graphics adapter is not installed in the Advanced Dock nor should it be used to install other ATI graphics adapters."

Advanced Dock and Mini Dock both have dual-link DVI and can run 2560x1600 resolution.

Relax algous.

1- T60P

2- I don't use Presentation Director

3- Check the link I gave you and it shows the version

No I'm not mistaken the link I gave you is the same in your document. Check again.

What they mean by special Lenovo X1300 driver for ThinkPad Advanced Dock is its not for their desktop version. They sell the X1300 for desktops as well and it has a different version driver.

Over all I'm pretty happy with it. But I don't play games so I don't know how it behaves if you want to use it for playing games.

well thanks for the info :) The x1400 supporting dual-link DVI is always great.

I'll probably just get a 24" WSXGA+ which doesn't need all that but maybe oneday i'll get a 30" :)
