Siemens has announced the development of Gigabit WiFi technology:

In the interests of full disclosure, yes, I worked for Siemens AG in the far distant past, but I have no connection to them at present other than as a stockholder.

James,
it is not politically incorrect to have been with Siemens...
and it is a still powerful, but often rather slow company. If they do detect the benefits of swift WiFi, it should be of use to all of us, since others will have understood before...
I, for my interest, urgently wait for WiMax and mesh-networking impatiently, to find a workaround for our "telekom", a true sleeping giant and monopolist of the last mile over here with us. Only than will I be able to gain broadband-access to the internet.
A happy New Year, alles Gute - vor allem Gesundheit - and less war and/or horror in the Years to come to You - to us all
