C:\IBMTOOLS ?

#1 Post by interval » Sat Apr 26, 2008 4:02 pm

Can I delete this folder? I'm pretty sure it's only been there since I burned the recovery CDs and now they're done so can I get rid of it entirely?

Thanks

You should probably check the folder contents for new content (in the event the folder is being used). On my machine, it is not used and never has been since install. So it could easily be deleted. On my machine, it is one of the smallest folders (0.6Gb) ... JDH

mine's 1.37gb :o

the last modified date is a few weeks ago when i burned the recovery cd. that folder has the recovery cd .iso inside.

the biggest folder in there is "APPS" and has what looks like acrobat reader, norton and pc doctor inside. the last modified date on that one is 2007.

hmmmm

anyone else want to confirm? i could do with the space but don't want to break anything...

All IBM/Lenovo tools/drivers are distributes as install files that decompress to either C:\DRIVERS or C:\IBMTOOLS. The actual setup files are started from there and install the files in appropriate places. The install directories can be deleted after that.

I have all the software IBM/Lenovo provides for my T41 and I have removed these directories long ago. Nothing broke, everything works as before.

Suppose you ever need to reinstall RecordNow. The version available on the Lenovo site can only upgrade an existing installation. Thus, if you use RecordNow, I suggest you put that one folder on a CD before trashing the APPS folder.

Same goes for InterVideo WinDVD and Sonic DLA. It would be wise to burn the original installers onto a CD before your delete them.

I've had my C:\I386 and C:\IBMTOOLS directories zipped and sitting on my hard drive for over a year and never had a problem. Just moved them to the external HDD today to free up a gigabyte of space.
