Is this FTP site the best reference for all IBM ThinkPads?

#1 Post by DrGrafix » Tue Jun 01, 2004 7:34 pm

Hey Guys...

I've used this FTP site for some reference information and it's come in handy, but I don't know if it's quirky or doesn't have every single TP listed. Here's the link:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitute/psref/

Of particular intrest to me was the pdf file "tawbook.pdf" which has dozens of TP configurations and information about what drives, graphics, and other features are included with most TP models.

Is there a "better" ftp site or html site that has all this kind of information? Many of these pdf files won't open on my machine, and honestly, I don't know what the "code" is to figure out what is in each pdf... you just have to look at each one until you find something interesting.

I also noticed something on eBay with certain TPs where some powersellers are offering a 3 year extended warranty on select models so that you have a total of 4 years warranty. I note this because the PDF files cover the warranty and when the model was removed from the lineup?

It's quite likely that the "code" would be in the files named index.pdf and indexw.pdf, however here's a start:

tabook/tawbook - A/T/X/R series
tbook/twbook - 2xx, 3xx, 5xx, 600, 7xx, 8xx series
tibook/tiwbook - i series
trbook/trwbook - older R series

The "w" stands for "withdrawn" and means that it lists models no longer being sold. "tc" is "ThinkCentre" which is for desktop models.
