System Update hangs on splash screen

#1 Post by thinkhami » Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:11 am

Hi there,

my T61P (Win XP SP3) has a problem I can´t solve.

When I try to use system update it hangs on splash screen. Same with google earth. Win update looks for updates an unlimited time and nothing happens.

Is ist a network problem? any hints?

With best regards from germany,

Thomas

check if the service "System Update" is running, or try to restart it, to check that go to control panel, administrative tools, services.

Hi, its me again bringing a post back from the dead :)

I have the same problem (Sytem Update Hanging on Splash Screen)

It happens on some computers while others are ok.

The setup is the following:
Client Computers:T61 7665-CTO/T61 7661-CTO
I have installed and configured Lenovo Update retriever on one of our servers and configured the laptops to use \\SERVERNAME\LenovoRep$ as the repository of System Update.

I have tried with new installations of System Update and with existing ones (modifying the registry value) and the problem appears on half of the computers.

The only "solution" i found, was to run System Update under "Windows XP SP2" compatibility mode. (Os is Windows Vista Enterprise SP1 x86).

Has anyone came up with a more "appropriate" solution?
