#1 Post by johnp126 » Fri Oct 10, 2008 5:01 pm

having annoying issues:
1. iexplore.exe stops responding
2. access connections does the same
3. can't use docking station (Full) with video card in it to drive >2 monitors (including thinkpads)

I had a heck of time, yes.

I ended up doing a factory refresh through the thinkvantage
tools. Can't be sure, but i think the thinkvantage updates
are what caused my problems.

as soon as I got the w500 i performed a windows update &
lenovo/thinkvantage update. I did go on to installing all my
other software blindly (nero, mcafee, etc etc).

I've reinstalled everything, EXCEPT the lenovo updates --
and everythings working great. I read through the descriptions
and none of them (lenovo updates) seemed very urgent.

don't know if that helps.

does the refresh require a complete rebuild?

i have not used that much, i have done a full wipe to factory default and removed programs we don't install like mcaffee and old acrobat versions. can u let me know if i require a full wipe as i just moved into this last weekend and hope not to have to redo it again. i did exactly like u. all the programs aren't issues bcause i have the same loaded as on my t61p with vista64

I am not having any issues with Vista 64 but my vote is still out on it. I've been using Vistal Ultimate 64 on a desktop also. Not all the software works properly, since of course, most of it is still x86 and especially the Adobe PDF printer. Adobe recognizes the problem offers a fix, but it doesn't work for me. I installed CutePDF. Acrobat Pro 8 works fine otherwise (so far)

I actually purchased a new drive, a Western Digital Scorpio Black 250 gig and installed Vista Home Premium 64 bit. And things didn't work correctly UNTIL I did install all the ThinkVantage updates. I had a bit of trouble with some of the drivers but I also purchased the Multibay drive adapter and was able to find those troublesome drivers on the original drive.

I have the Mini Dock with the DVI/VGA outputs and am driving two monitors. Occasionally on start up, mainly from restart, not cold start, the ATI graphics will not come up correctly and I have to run the configurator to get my screens to appear correctly.

I took Adobe to task for selling Adobe 8 as Vista-capable and then bringing out V9 only a couple of months after I purchased V8. They shipped me a free V9 upgrade and it works fine.

I have finally hammered out most of the 64-bit issues. ... JDH

CS4 is shipping within the next week or two.   while you're at it, you might as well inquire about upgrading everything.

Only if I can do it for free  which I seriously doubt.

I complained that what I was sold did not work properly (even though advertised to do so) and that a fair remedy was an upgrade to the new version. It was not *precisely* free, in that I had to pay for the shipping of the CD, but I was happy to do that, for I have the new version and it is working better than V8.

You can only call, fairly and appropriately ask, and try. It is not down to you, but to them that they had Vista 64-bit problems.
