T42 80 GB hard drive question

#1 Post by pdudas » Sat Jan 08, 2005 6:30 am

Hi!

I have a T42 with Fujitsu MHT2040AH 40GB hard drive.

I tried to change the hard drive to a 80Gb drive.
It was Toshiba MK8026GAX. There are 16MB cache in this 5400rpm drive.
It was a lot more slower than the Fujitsu, and was louder and hotter.
(I transferred the system to the new drive, then tried a clean factory recovery)(both of them was slow).

Do you have any idea, what drive should I use to have an advantages like the old one? (silent, fast, low power consumption)

Thanks in advance!

I second that. The 7K60 Travelstar is the best 2.5" drive at the moment. Very fast, cool and silent.

I installed the Hitachi 80Gb 5400rpm drive in my T42 and it's silent.

I found my Hitachi 5k80 pretty quiet after I turned on acoustic management.

very fast, but compared to other 5.4k drives not that much faster (use real world benches, this drives is just fast in burst mode)
cool -> yes
silent -> hm, if that drive is silent a toshiba gas or even some fujitsu drives would be sub-silent ;-) , in fact it is not loud

I prefer Zipzoomfly.com. However, I'm not hesitant to take advantage od special offers from other sources. The last two 7K60s I purchased came from Dell on a special sale for $120 each after applying some coupons.
