How can I tell if Y530 really does have bluetooth?

#1 Post by xwray » Thu Nov 13, 2008 12:33 pm

Hello...I bought my grandaughter a Y530 4051-43U which, as I understand it, is supposed to have bluetooth on it. However, I'm beginning to wonder if it really does...at least I have not been able to get it working. I was able to get bluetooth working on my X200 so I'm not totally in the dark here but I have to be missing something! Access Connections only displays the wireless ethernet connection...nothing else. I can't see any reference to anything bluetooth in the control panel. The documentation that came with the system didn't really address bluetooth and nothing came up as it was going through the initial startup.

Should I have to load any drivers or other software before bluetooth will show up in access connections (or anywhere else for that matter)? How can I tell if the system actually contains the bluetooth hardware.

If anyone could clear this up for me It would be very much appreciated.

thanks

I looked up that model on Lenovo's site... the description does not say anything about bluetooth. :(
560, 560, 560, (all in various stages of completion/possession of a screen) 600E that's pretty dead, and a spiffy new X61 Tablet.

This is what I based my assumption on...info from the Personal Systems Reference - Lenovo IdeaPad Notebooks ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... ipbook.pdf

The description for this model says it has Bluetooth. I searched the lenovo site and I couldn't even find this model...must have used the wrong keywords. In any even, it you are correct that would certainly explain my problem. I don't know why they have to make it so hard to find a simple product description that would make sense to a non-Lenovo expert...

In any event, thanks for the feedback.

I simply went to the lenovo driver download page and entered the exact model number. The "original description" said nothing about bluetooth. :( However, if you need it, there's always USB and various forms of internal solutions! :D

I see what you mean. It looks like the info in the book must be wrong unless I'm just misunderstanding it.

thanks
