how to change discharge sequence of main/ultrabay battery

#1 Post by thomas565 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 5:29 am

I received my ultrabay battery today, and tried it out immediately, swapping it for the cd-rom. After charging, what I observed was, that th t61p first empties out the small ultrabay battery, and then taps the large battery. I prefer to have it the other way, first empty out my 9-cell battery, and then the ultrabay battery. Why?
Actually, I have two 9-cell batteries, and I ordered the ultrabay battery for the purpose that I can swap the 9-cell batteries without the need for the power cord plugged in, and without the need to shut down the pc only for the purpose of exchanging the battery. In other words, I like to used the ultrabay battery as a "bridge" between the 2 large ones when I swap them.
But now, since the ultrabay battery is empty first, I cannot use the ultrabay battery anymore while swapping the large batteries.
How can I change the sequence of which battery is emptied first?

Thanks
T

in my operating system, the ultrabay battery is labeled 'battery 2' while the regular one is 'battery 1'.

You can't change the order. The best way to use it to swap 9-cells would be to keep the ultrabay battery in your bag. When the main battery gets low, put in the ultrabay battery. Once the machine is switched to the ultrabay battery, swap the main batteries. Then take the ultrabay battery out.

It does make you wonder what the designers were thinking, though. The ultrabay battery has so little capacity that it is hardly good for much more than what thomas565 was planning.

I had the same plans for the ultrabay battery I bought for my T61p. I had a six cell, a nine cell and an ultrabay battery. I ended up doing just what comptiger5000 suggested.
