how to know if battery is new or used? - W500

I bought a 6 cells battery off ebay for my W500, it came with plastic bag inside a box, didn't seem lenovo's

i want to know if it was new or used? any software i can use on ubuntu linux or vista ?

It's most likely a knock-off where it was from eBay (most there are.) I know if I go into my power settings in XP by double clicking my power guage (the Lenovo one, I'm sure they've got something similar in Vista) there's a Battery information tab. It displays the month and year the battery was first used and the cycle count. If those are way off, then you may have an old battery.
