Re: whats your favorite laptop case
I have several, some no-names made in Korea and Philippines, a Dell and a Targus, all for 14" laptops like T23 and T30.
I prefer the Korean no-name, has the best fit, excellent padding and is superlight.

I use this case for my 14.1" R52. It's not real snug (can fit up to 15") but doesn't seem to slide around. Neoprene case is very light and front pocket has room for power brick, mouse, network cable, flash drive, etc. I've seen it at Best Buy, Circ. City, Office Depot, etc.

Again, I recommend the Booq Vyper series. I believe there was one in your size, but overall I feel they are the best.

Not to dog on you, you seem cool but.....
I know that case very well.
Trust me when I say it's crap. Very thin padding, weakly sewn straps and a plastic clip waiting to break. I've had a few customers who owned those and I was not surprised when their HD's died very prematurely. I know Targus makes great stuff, but this case is a waste of money IMO.
Right now I am using a Circuit City brand messenger bag. The padding on all sides is 1" thick and nice and strong too, not flimsy. Multiple pockets for storing LAN cables, PCMCIA and Express cards, power adapter, multiple flash drives, portable mouse, blank CD's and DVD's, and finally a few bootable Linux distros. I paid $75 for it 2 years ago and it's still going strong.
I would like to find one of those red and black neoprene skins that people have for their T4x machines. I had one on my T41P but included it in the sale when I sold it. I would love to find one for my 15" T60.

Re: whats your favorite laptop case
yes, that IBM sleeve is what I would really like!
I spent like 20$ on a simple Targus case to hold my laptop for the time being, it's a POS...
theres alot of options for laptop cases in the works as well. maybe I can just stick it in a manilla envelope?

I am a fan of lightweight 'sleeve' style cases. Two of my favourites are the Shinza Zeroshock series, or for something slightly larger with a shoulder strap, Crumpler's "Skivvy" bags.

Re: whats your favorite laptop case
The search for the perfect laptop case has come up empty for me. I have tried (4) different kinds and none of them are perfect. Over the years I have used a couple of the Dell cases, that have been OK but not small enough. I use the Targus case mentioned above for my X40 and I am satisfied with it contrary to the comments mentioned. I mostly like it because it is small and unobtrusive so it has been the best case to take on planes for me. And lastly I bought a Samsonite case which has been a total waste of money for me. I think the best potential case would be the Booq Vyper Exo, however I am not ready to spend $200 on a case seeing as how I use a case for travel about twice a year.
Re: whats your favorite laptop case
After going from bag to bag, I finally settled on a bag that street vendors sell in New York. It has a ton of pockets and no place for my computer. As it happens, it is the perfect size for a 12" 4:3 laptop, and I bought a 12" sleeve with a flap closure for my tablet. The Velcro on the flap attaches to a strip of Velcro I put in the bag, and it holds the sleeve securely. This doesn't carry a whole lot, but it is the best and most versatile solution I have found to carry my computer around, as well as being much lighter than any other bag I've used.
I think the most important thing to remember is what you said: find one that fits your computer snugly. I feel much more comfortable with my computers tight in a 12" sleeve than banging around in a bag designed to fit 17" widescreens and sell to people who don't know how big their computer is.
