Links in forum posts no longer open in a new tab

#1 Post by BeeJayEmm » Sat Jan 10, 2009 10:36 pm

I'm using Firefox 3.0.4 on Win XP sp3. Before the upgrade, clicking on a link in a forum post opened the link in a new tab. Since the upgrade, clicking a link opens it in the same tab, replacing the forum post. I haven't made any changes to my computer lately. Is it just me or is anyone else noticing this? Of course, it's not a big deal; I'm just curious.

Yes this is true. Try opening the link with the "Middle Mouse Button", or else "Shift + Left Mouse Button", or else right-click and choose "Open in New Tab".

This is part of the new upgrade, to make the web pages XHTML compliant.
You'll have to get used to it and use e.g. the middle mouse-button.

I like it more this way - now you can choose using your browser's capabilities, whether same tab, new tab, or new window. Either Ctrl+click or using some extension like Easy DragToGo you can just drag the link a little and it will open in new tab.

Thanks for the replies. I had already been using the right click "Open in new tab" tango but didn't know about the middle mouse trick. Since I have a scroll wheel, it's 50/50 getting the link in a new tab or getting the auto-scroll dot-in-a-circle thing. Cntrl-click works great; Shift-click opens in a new window for me. Thanks again.

I guess Opera and Firefox are a little different. I use Opera. The CTRL key doesn't seem to modify anything in Opera (when used with left or middle mouse button of the TrackPoint). "Shift + Left Mouse" Button opens a new tab in Opera.
