Yup, such an upgrade shouldn´t be a problem at all. Yes, there is an "easy way" to install all the drivers -> install Lenovo System Update and let it download and install all the drivers (you need internet connection though). Alternatively, you can use SL series Driver Matrix to manually install all needed drivers and applications.

If you want it to be 200 GB, then get Hitachi 7K200. IMO this is still an excellent drive (despite being slightly older as the new release is Hitachi 7K320).

I could not agree more, the Hitachi 7K200 is an excellent choice. I've had several of these and they are super reliable, run quiet and can be found at very good prices. One cannot go wrong with this drive.

If I want XP I have to order them and they cost $45 any other way to have the factory image on the new HDD i got?

You may have gotten a new person when you spoke to Lenovo because the info you were given is wrong. The only way to get a new ThinkPad with XP loaded on it, is to choose that as a "downgrade option" in which case you get the Vista Disks Separately in the box with the computer. You do _not_ get XP Disks. If you want a set of XP disks, that is easy as there is an application to allow you to burn your own. With some blank disks ready, go to Start / All Programs / ThinkVantage / Create Recovery Media.... that is the pre-loaded application that will burn a set of disks, then once you've burned a set, the icon with that choice goes away, thus it's a one time only opportunity to burn your own set.
(The one exception is if you uset the rescue and recovery utility to wipe your disk and do a complete restore, then that option appears again.)

Cheers

I just got my SL300 as my spare laptop.

It's preinstalled with Vista and got XP installation media with it (Dutch Language). The XP installation manual tells me first to create the VISTA install disks from thinkvantage to have the oppurunity to reverse to Vista later on...

I moved to the darkside 3 months ago.... My T42 got the videochip problem.... The T/W400 lacked the video power I wanted so I moved to a HP Elitebook 8530w as my primary machine... I like it. It's sturdy. The Alu Bezel looks great. The only disadvantage is it's weight.

The partnumber for my SL300 is NS6K5MH, it's a 2738-K5G. It's predelivered with a KPN UMTS card.
