WWAN and Telstra (australia)

#1 Post by symbol » Thu Apr 02, 2009 4:18 pm

Hello everybody, several months ago i purchased a sierra mc8775 embedded module. When purchasing I told the bloke i would be using Telstra (aussie ip) as my provider. The fellow said "it's no longer locked to Vodaphone and is compatible with your computer". Well ain't that just fab! Trouble is Telstra transmits 0n 850mhz but a bit of corporate espionage has this device unable to receive that band. Might be compatible with my computer but is as useful as [censored] on a bull if it doesn't work as it was intended...picking up wireless signals. I once picked up something called 'edge' but the signal was so weak as to be unusable. I have also tried the sim from my mobile phone and same deal, it works in the phone but not with the sierra.
At last here is my question lol. Has anyone actually got a Lenovo supplied sierra module to work with Telstra... and how?
I cannot begin to tell of the level of my dissatisfaction with this sl500. A load of poor quality components stuffed together. Lenovo milking the old cash cow again.
My regards.
Lenovo' Thinkpad sl500... an electronic lemon.

Have you tried using the Generic Sierra Wireless software instead of Access Connections?

It's called Watcher and its available on the Sierra Wireless website
