For ThinkPads, I wish for...

... a 9-cell battery in the 6-cell form factor. What would you like?

1-   UXGA in a 14" screen on a T4x chassis.   (yes, i will probably go blind shortly thereafter... :P)

2-   bring back the s30.   keep everything the same but throw in a 1.4~1.7GHz pM and 16mb ATI GPU.   ship it with a 40gb E7K60 hdd.   oh, and figure out some way to offer both internal wlan and ethernet rather than one or the other.

A bloody price break!! No but in all honesty, for the T-series, do away with the parallel port and add Firewire and another USB or two - legacy be [censored], its time to move on :)

That too.

Erik 2nd wish, but with 32MB or 64MB ATI. I just love small factor ThinkPads.

I would like (and this seems relatively reasonable, except for maybe the video card):

Thinkpad X41
Intel Pentium M 755 2.0ghz
1gb RAM
60gb 4200rpm 1.8" Hard Drive
128mb ATI FireGL T2 with DVI output
12.1" XGA LCD
UltraNav
WiFi a/b/g
Bluetooth
USB 2.0 and Firewire
Keep it 2.7 lbs

If the FireGL doesn't work because of weight/size/heat, then at least the Mobility Radeon 9100 IGP.
Thinkpad X200s w/ Ultrabase
C2D SL9600 / 8GB / 160GB X25-M G2 / BD MULTI / 12.1" WXGA / INTEL 4500MHD / INTEL 5150 / BT / AT&T WWAN / W7

I would buy 2 of those 1 to use and 1 to keep just in case the 1st one stop working on me in the future.

why an X41 and not an s40?   my s30 is smaller than your X40 and uses a 2.5" hdd.   (haha... that's the only time that i'll admit that anything of mine is smaller than anyone else's!  )   in fact, i just ordered a 40gb E7K60 to replace the original DJSA-220 (20gb/4200rpm/2mb).

an X41 would be great but hitachi needs to make a 1.8" hdd with 20~40gb, 7200rpm, and 8mb of cache.   i don't care how fast a processor is -- i'll take a faster hdd any day.   ;)

1600x1200 DVI to an external monitor (without resorting to hacks.)

S30 = 3.2 lbs (http://www.dynamism.com/thinkpad/index.shtml)
X40 = 2.7 lbs (http://reviews.cnet.com/IBM_ThinkPad_X4 ... tag=glance)

That being said, the laquered case on the S30 is really cool :) If only it had a better graphics chip :(

I forgot to add!:

I had an idea for a ThinkPad W series (W for Widescreen!). It would be similar to the T4x series except Wider to accomodate up to a 15.4" 1920x1200 display.

I don't know if there's a market for such a machine, but programmers, artists, and digital video editors might like it :D

If you like the piano glossy finish, then you probably would like this 10th Anniversary Limited Edition ThinkPad X30. More pictures here. As far as I know only 2002 were made.

Without taking things to extremes, I'd like a IBM Palm (ooop's), black like a Thinkpad...not too much to ask.

Like the WorkPad C3 or rather the Z50 with better CPU and more features?

s30 with 6-cell battery = 6.5 hours / 3.2lbs / 10.11" x 8.38" x .88~1.27"
s30 with 9-cell battery = 10.0 hours / 3.7lbs / 10.11" x 9.38" x .88~1.27"
X40 with 4-cell battery = 3.5 hours / 2.7lbs / 10.5" x 8.3" x .81~1.06"
X40 with 8-cell battery = 7.0 hours / 3.2lbs / 10.5" x 9.3" x .81~1.06"
- to get equal battery performance, the X40's footprint must grow to be considerably larger than the s30.   and, if anyone's curious, the actual width of an s30 is only 9.5" wide without the "ears," making it look much smaller than it really is.

DJSA-220 20gb = 99g (.218lbs)
C4K40 20gb = 47g (.104lbs)
- if you put a 20gb C4K40 into an s30 then the s30 would be 3.086lbs.

if ibm had made a 3-cell battery for the s30 then it would have lasted 3~3.5 hours, chopped off about .7" from the depth, and shed .5lbs.   my guess is that the X40 and s30 without drives or batteries weigh very close to each other.   :)

the 'mirage black' finish is still growing on me... and, you're 100% correct that 4mb vram sucks. :(   that's why i save all major graphical work for the R50p (which i now wish was a T42p ;)).

- Bring Firewire back. Yeah. Whoever decided X30 shouldn't have Firewire??

- I second getting rid of legacy port (on my X30 only the parallel port is left though, and I kind of use it, but for next generation...pfff... why not)

I went with X31 over X40 for 3 reasons:

- firewire
- 2.5" vs rarer 1.8" HD
- LV P-M vs regular P-M

What would I like to see next on the X series?

- standard 5400rpm drives
- same physical size longer lasting batteries
- optional 12" display with higher 1400*1050 resolution
- LED supported buttons
- Dothan based P-M chip
- rid of parallel port
I am Canadian
