IdeaPad S12 Netbook Available Now...
Hello Lenovo? Anybody home?
I went to your web site today to purchase the new S12 IdeaPad you have listed, but the information was incomplete. While you would happily take my money as there _is_ a price listed, there are also two type numbers. Type 295954U and 295955U. Both have the exact same description. There is no way to tell the difference, but I know there is one. And how do I know? Because elsewhere on the web it says they are offered in two colors. Black and White. And on your site it reveals the same thing. However when one decides to place an order there is no way to tell which is which. I don't feel like guessing.
When one calls your company, the sales people have no idea, they don't know either.

Re: IdeaPad S12 Netbook Available Now...
J&R has the black one listed as 2959-32U, and the white as 2959-33U.

Just looking at the features, initially there was talk of Lenovo including the NVIDIA Ion graphics platform.

That did not appear to happen as I see it has an Intel GMA950. This may be the low end model they are releasing first though....so patience may be a virtue here.

Nice work! Yes I noticed that the NVIDIA platform was absent from this configuration. And I agree, I'm sure that it will appear as they roll out the entire line of options.Harryc wrote:J&R has the black one listed as 2959-32U, and the white as 2959-33U.

Hmmmm...."Patience" I'll have to Google that word. Perhaps it's some technical detail I've yet to find out about..ha..ha..ha...Harryc wrote:so patience may be a virtue here.
Kidding aside I approach Netbooks as they were originally designed to be used. As a notebook "lite" simply for browsing the web, processing email and a bit of light work. So for me the most basic config keeps the price down and fits the bill. Speaking of which, the S12 is an incredible deal when compared to the pricing of other 12" netbooks. Also I can attest to the fact that it most probably has a fantastic touch pad, yes ThinkPad lovers, I said touch pad. And I'm eating my words as I used to cringe at the thought of one as I'm a die hard TrackPoint user / advocate. But I decided to accept the fact that if I was going to buy a Netbook I would have no choice but to embrace it. Well I'm here to say that the touch pad on my IdeaPad S10 is amazing. It truly is. Therefore I expect the S12 will be just as nice.
.
Cheers...

Re: IdeaPad S12 Netbook Available Now...
Today is _day three_ since I called Lenovo to report that there was a problem with the web site. Still no action.
There is no way to tell which S12 IdeaPad is which.
Still... no one has taken the time to correct the web site. There is no sense of urgency or responsibility.
And to make matters worse, they _did work on that page_ as now there are three models listed instead of just two.
They now list the 295954U, 295955U, 295956U models.
There is also a pdf document labeled S series specs. I downloaded that file but it's for the S10 series, not the S12 series.
Furthermore there is no way to tell what size the computer is as they fail to post dimensions as well.
This is a comedy of errors, and a testimony to their apathy.
I cannot believe that Lenovo would do such a poor job, especially after I called it to their attention just hours after the S12 was put on the site three full days ago.
Perhaps business is so good that Lenovo simply does not care.
And as another member of the forum so kindly called to my attention, one can go out on the web ... kinda of like a do it yourself project... and find out from third party resellers which model number is which.
I wonder how long the Apple customers would put up with this, if Apple was this bad?
This would be a great job for a webmaster. Perhaps that's what Lenovo is lacking.

Re: IdeaPad S12 Netbook Available Now...
Lenovo needs a new webmaster... or someone who cares.
It's been FIVE DAYS... and they still have not corrected the IdeaPad S12 web page.
Worse... they've even been on that page, as they've added one more model, but again without any way of knowing much about it. Like what color it is and what the dimensions are. Or if it has a glossy or matte screen. But who cares? It's only details. Just like Vegas, you pay your money and take your chances.
But no worries... they must have so much net profit that it simply doesn't matter if they sell these.
Go to work for Lenovo... no accountability, no stress, no sense of urgency....heh!
