Is the black S10 black/black or black/white?

#1 Post by virge » Tue Nov 18, 2008 11:41 pm

I'm about to order an S10 for my father. He wants something smaller, but tells me the SXGA+ screen on the G41 is too hard to read... :? Maybe it'll end up being MY S10. :D

I always thought the black version of the S10 was entirely black, but I've just found out that many of the pictures I've found show a black shell with a white keyboard/palmrest/LCD bezel. I know its just cosmetic, but I really think the white plastics are not appropriate for situation.

Can someone tell me how to tell the difference between the two when ordering? I have one in my cart right now at lenovo.com but would like to make sure before ordering. Thanks for the help.

Virge, whenever I am looking for decent product images, I always check Newegg first .... if you order there, what you see is what you will get. I know that doesn't really answer your question, but I hope it helps.

Thanks for the info Harry. Those pics are exactly what I wanted to see.

I may just pick up the S10 from Newegg seeing how they're the same price as direct at Lenovo. I'm still hesitating because I think my father my be happier with an X300 because of the sceen size. Also, he likes the Trackpad better than the Trackpoint otherwise I would suggest an x6.

I had that same question about color myself. Upon calling into tech support on a level two issue (ThinkPad), the tech just happened to mention the S10 models. I asked about the Black & White vs all Black and he said that the early pre-production models where Black & White, as well as the first batch that sold out early. After which the demand was for all black. That is the reason it's the last color to be released. I just ordered the all Black from Lenovo on Monday and received email confirmation that it shipped this morning. Exactly as promised.

Cheers...

Well that explains why there are two different types of black S10s. Its nice to know that Lenovo can adapt that quickly to consumer demand. Now if they would only put a Trackpoint on these I know there would be even more buyers. A trackpoint seems ideal for a netbook doesn't it?

Yes it does, that's one of the best "features" of my X60s is it has a trackpoint only, no touch pad (I cannot stand touch pads). When there is no touch pad, then the issue of brushing it while moving around the keyboard is no longer a problem. Ahh... the good old days of the pure ThinkPad w/out the touch pad

Yikes... am I really getting that old...

I don't like the touch pads defiling thinkpads either. My sister is going to get an s10, and I know she'd want it even more if it had a trackpoint.
560, 560, 560, (all in various stages of completion/possession of a screen) 600E that's pretty dead, and a spiffy new X61 Tablet.

Friday, the day after my last post, my new IdeaPad S10 arrived. I must say that it's the first laptop of any type that I have had (and I've had several) that actually has a good touch pad. In no way is this better than a track point, but I must give credit where it is due, and Lenovo did a very good job in selecting the vendor for the touch pad on the S10. In addition, I am here to say that the quality of the S10 is excellent. It far exceeds my expectations. I purchased it just for the obvious size advantages of being able to easily carry it into a Starbucks and have a better internet browsing experience than on an iPhone or other small screen device. And after looking at the Acer One eeePC and others, it's simply amazing at what a nice job they did, the quality of plastics and the solid keyboard.

S10 Black: Completely black? Or exterior only?

#9 Post by warreng24 » Fri Jun 26, 2009 8:21 pm

I am curious about the black S10.

Is the entire netbook black? Or just the exterior case? I see some photos where the inside (LCD frame, palm rest, and keyboard is black) and others where the inside is white and the exterior case is black.

I also notice that the black S10 is no longer listed on the Lenovo site. However, it is still listed in ipbook. Any chance of calling to ask for a particular model/part number (black)?

Thanks

Your question is a good one, as they show an all Black S10, then as you know they show one with a Black top and bottom but a white palm rest and keyboard.

I have the All Black S10 and in my opinion it's the best looking of the bunch. Also the S10 is the only one with a matte display. The S10e and S10-2 have glossy displays.

Here's the number for you: 4231-2BU All Black S10

Cheers... :)
