Here are the symptoms:
1) For the most part it won't turn on at all. No fans, no leds, nothing.
2) Sometimes, when I unplug and replug the AC cord it will turn on when sitting on a steady surface (like a table) and windows will load and function normally, BUT as soon as I move the laptop a little it will either shut off completely or it will freeze (with the screen on).
Now at the point where the screen is frozen I can move and shake the laptop as much as I want, and it won't lose power. If I press the power button for >5 seconds it will shut off. And it won't turn on anymore, unless I unplug and then replug the AC power (if I am lucky of course).

|--- I disassembled the laptop and replaced the CPU with a spare one I had around. Didn't help.
|
|--- I replaced the memory. Didn't help. I also removed the battery, hard drive, and optical drive. I also tried different batteries and power supplies.
3) There is a CLICKING NOISE for a few seconds coming from somewhere in the system board as soon as I press the power button after reconnecting the AC adapter. The battery LED will flash in sync with this noise. After that the system stays dead. It's not the CPU fan, and it's not the hard drive (I made sure). What else can possibly cause a clicking noise?
I would appreciate it if anyone could help me with this.
Thanks
