Replacing factory disk with SSD. Alignment?

#1 Post by jjt3hii » Mon Oct 05, 2009 11:58 am

I have a new W500 that shipped with a 160GB 7200 disk. I created the factory recovery dvd media after booting with the 160GB disk. I removed the 160GB and installed the 128GB SSD thinkpad option 43N3406 which was actually a 1.8" drive with a samsung label. I then did a factory reload using the DVDs previously created.

The system seems really slow and when opening applications the system will just hang for 3-20 seconds with the disk light solid green. Do I need to repartition and change the alignment, or something else?

btw, Vista x64 with lastest SP and all patches, plus all lenovo system updates.

I just did the same with the 256GB SSD from Lenovo. Also Vista 64 from the DVD. I haven't noticed any problems.

From recommendations floating around online, you should disable readyboost, readydrive, all kinds of indexing, autp-defrag, and anything else that tries to optimize "drive access" performance.
