Their existing corporate line and support is far below that of IBM. I wouldn't expect renaming it is going to make a difference. (Their corporate sales force sucks, too, so that just makes things worse.)

Their website is horrible for people trying to get information on what each model offers. Only one picture of a model, lousy description, no 3-D tour, etc.

Do you guys know what models would most closely approximate a T42 or an X40?

Thanks!

Friend of mine has the Tecra M2V...not as thin or light but a very nice laptop. Keyboard isn't half bad either. And when she spilled 16 ounces of hot coffee on it...all she needed was a new keyboard.

From the Reuters article, these new machines seem to be ruggedized - they are more in the class of Panasonic Toughbooks than ThinkPads.
Homebuilt PC: AMD Athlon XP (Barton) @ 1.47 GHz; nForce2 Ultra; 1GB RAM; 80GB HDD @ 7200RPM; ATI Radeon 9600; Integrated everything else!

Maybe so, but you'd still have to deal with Toshiba's support and their sales force. BTDT

I have had both Thinkpads and Toshibas. I think that the thinkpads are superior machines, but I did have a good experience with Toshiba's support (US). Wainting times are not long, technical assistance is good, it's easy to escalate an issue in case you don't get it resolved.

Last week I called IBM to ask is the flex in my keyboard could be fixed. They guy refused to send a keyboard and wanted me to send the machine in. He "did not understand what the problem was".

I think that it's hard to say which support is better. It's a matter of luck.

I don't know what I'm making wrong, but ThinkPads are the only ones who remains longer to me than other brands. All of my other Notebook except a ThinkPad 380XD and a PowerBook 520 are broken after about 3 months.
IBM ThinkPad R51 1829-DRG
