Down with Netbooks!
Some days i prefer to travel light and leave the thinkpad at home. My library lets you take out laptops for the day, just like the books and journals.
Not any more! In their wisdom the IT department has replaced all the laptops with netbooks. Fine for emails or youtube, but if you have any amount of reading or writing to do, this thing is torture! Have a look at the photo below. With all the useless default toolbars, the usable screen size is reduced to the height of a credit card. I won't start on the keyboard!

Just a quiet word; according to the forum rules you are supposed to warn people if a photo is included in a posting. The best way is to put the photo on a website like 'Photobucket' and then provide a link to the photo.
Apparently a lot of people don't have high-speed internet access and photos completely b*gger them.

Netbooks....ugh.
Just got my X41 Tablet from Fry112 and I've already fallen in love with it.
Eventually most consumer electronic devices will settle on some sort of form factor and will handle internet, phone, connection to the house, video conferencing, gps and so on all rolled into one device.
If you've seen TekWar and remember the cylinder tube about 4" tall with a pull out screen that was readable in darn near any circumstance then you'll know what I mean. If not check it out, it's a great series and Shatner does a good job as the Director (both of the program and as a character in the show).

Re: Down with Netbooks!
Yeah... I'm not a fan of netbooks at all. I spent some time on a friend's EeePC enough to really dislike the form factor. I just don't see how you get much done on a tiny 16:9 form factor LCD with horrid resolution. They might be half the weight of the T60p I'm typing this on, but I have a machine powerful enough to do casual gaming as well as this beautiful UXGA Flexview display. However, with the fact that I'm in college and I'm sometimes placed into kinda cramped situations...
...my X60s is completely wonderful. Same price and weight as most of these netbooks, a decent(although a little small) XGA 12.1" display, and a Core Duo processor that simply leaves an Atom coughing in its dust. I'll take a used X-series over a netbook any day of the week. The best thing is that it has a Trackpoint, and not one of those blasted touchpads I always hate. Bleh.

Re: Down with Netbooks!
I was at Best Buy the other day and happened upon some netbooks. They were all junk with cheap plastic cases flexed terribly. The brand didn't matter - Asus, Sony, Dell, Toshiba, Gateway, etc. A couple had decent screens, but other than that, there wasn't much there. One trend I noticed was the trend toward a single button with left and right clicks. I disliked it a lot. I'd a trackpoint, which is not my first choice, over those any day. I'm with others, I'd rather spend a few extra bucks to get something decent.
