How about good old XP? I don't see that Windows Seven offers me much over what XP does, at least for the things I do. It looks better, sure, but there's a few programs that I have, one in particular, that don't work in Seven. Plus I've got a few older games that don't play nicely in Vista on my X1300. I'm guessing the the same holds true for Seven.

Of the (5) Windows laptops/desktops I regularly use, (2) are already running W7, and the another (1) will be on W7 by next week. The other (2) will continue to run XP for awhile. You didn't give fresh install as an option in your poll, but that is what I did....and I already run Snow Leopard, so I could have voted twice.

I'm one of the few who had no complaints about Vista - I used it on 3 machines for almost 3 years and was very happy with the performance and reliability. However, I've moved on. Now it's 64-bit Windows 7 on everything. My installs were completed last August when 7 went RTM.

I don't generally reinstall operating systems on my computers ever.

Therefore I will not upgrade anything to Windows 7. Between myself and my parents' home I have 5 machines running XP and one (the primary desktop) with Vista. I am happy with all of them, and will not upgrade any of them.

My next PC is going to have Windows 7, though, unelss something even newer comes out by the time I buy it.

7 on my T400, Snow Leopard on my MacBook Air.

I'm with you -- I just stick with the OS the machine came with (currently -- 1 XP and 2 Vista machines). Even with hard drive crashes, I reinstall the original. Why give MS more money? Perhaps, if it were a free update I'd experiment. Only time I really recommended an upgrade was years ago for a friend who got Windows ME!

I have voted Stay with Vista.

Like K0LO, I am another of the few who actually respect Vista's innovation into new features and capabilities(although their functionality before SP1 is questionable) and therefore I actually plan on sticking with Vista for awhile.

And like dr_st, I really don't see much point on reinstalling a newer OS on the computer, unless I'm certain it is truly beneficial. Vista is just as usable and functional as 7, and both Microsoft and software companies still support it.

Although I've voted "stay with XP", I will probably end up upgrading to Vista once I've got my laptop up to spec.

We have lots of PC's/laptops in the house, 2 of the 4 pc's have xp, one has vista and one has 7 (and all the laptops have xp) and personally, I think 7 looks pretty much exactly like Vista only when you put your cursor over the start menu button the colours kind of spread out in an animation. Also 7 does feature more transparaency/AERO effects. I've never really had a good go on 7 but it looks exactly the same as Vista.

I have Vista Ultimate and XP Pro on my dekstop (dual boot) and I love both of them! :D

7 is a lot like Vista, but has some improved UI features and some things in the kernel where changed to improve responsiveness and reduce memory footprint. In all honesty, I don't see any reason to install Vista from scratch, when 7 does exactly the same things and a few more, and faster. If you already have Vista running nicely, I don't see any compelling reason to upgrade, but for a new installation - 7 all the way. UNLESS you experience some driver/software compatibility issues, which are rare, but possible.

I have access to either XP Pro with SP2 installation disc, Vista Ultimate Upgrade disc and Win 7 Pro disc. I'll decide which one to install when I've finished doing up my latop...doubt it'll be 7, probably will end up being XP but it might be Vista.

Two laptops on Vista, one on win2k. Vista isnt too bad once you get used to it. Its not bad enough for me to fork out a couple of hundered on win7.

i have three different harddrives with different OS's on them, 160Gb w/xp, 500GB w/Vista, and 500GB w/ win7. Depending on how i feel throughout the year, i just switch the main drive or pop one in the ultabay to dual boot. So far i like Win7, it is pretty fast and has not had any driver issues. I have had to download the current ones from lenovo due to system update not doing it for me.
