Should I buy a W500 now?

I think the W500 may be over the hill now. I've heard that the W510 is going to come out in January. I don't really need bleeding edge, but maybe I should wait for the W510 to come out so I can get the W500 cheaper. Thoughts?

Also, the WUXGA screen is mighty attractive. However the WSXGA+ is LED backlit. I have an LED backlit display on my MacBook Pro and I love it. Looking for some opinions on this.. will I hate myself if I switch to a non LED backlit display? 1920x1200 resolution on a 15" sounds so appealing!

WSXGA+ on a W500 is NOT LED-backlit, but is likely a nicer screen itself than the WUXGA one...so you have one less thing to worry about.

The WSXGA+ screen is a bit brighter (20-25 nits more I believe) than the WUXGA.
I personally own the W500 with a WUXGA. I love the resolution and the screen has a great contrast ratio of 500:1 as opposed to 400:1 on the WSXGA+.
You are coming from a Macbook Pro with a great screen, most other screens are inferior.
That being said, I am very happy with the WUXGA screen. The brightness is just fine and I love the 1920x1200 16:10 resolution.

Hi, I just bought a W500 with WUXGA screen. I guess I could not set the screen settings correctly. Could you please let me know a few important screen settings to be made.

Display properties:

Settings Tab:
Do you recommend the Resolution to be set at: 1920X1200?
Color quality:?
DPI:?

Appearance tab:
Effects?
Advanced?

Always use the LCD's native resolution, otherwise, get the lower res screen.

I use color quality 32bit
Refresh Rate: 60hz
Text size DPI: 120

I have customizations regarding the Menu items font sizes and other small things.
I also did some minor color corrections to reduce the blueish tint a bit.

By the way, do you recommend to sent the resolution to the maximum setting (1900X1200)?
My Screen is WUXGA with CCFL so there are no LEDs. In this case what resolution would you recommend (what is the native resolution, if you have nay idea?)?

Fernando, the native resolution of a WUXGA display is 1920x1200, for a WSXGA+ it is 1680x1050.
Always use the maximum that the displays supports, in your case 1920x1200. That is what I use too.

there are some laptops out there with WSXGA+ or greater with LED screens, even some with a RGB LED screens.
some Mac Pro's have them, Dell M4400, Dell XPS16 or HP Elitebooks.

I set the resolution of my WUXGA (W500) screen to 1900x1200 and, 60Hz refresh rate and DIP to 120.

The fonts are sharp and nice but they are too small. Hence I increased the font size to large and extra large, still the fonts small. Could you please recommend me any other adjustment?
I also checked with 96DPI and it was even smaller.
