Ultrabay 2nd HDD adapter for W700 part number needed

#1 Post by proaudioguy » Tue Dec 01, 2009 5:05 pm

I have posted this at least 6 times in various forums and no one has answered. Any help is appreciated. I emailed THIS seller and he said it would NOT work with W700. I don't know if he's wrong, if the add that says it works with W500 is wrong, or if the W700 uses a different form factor than the W700.

I'm sure that's not OEM but I can't find an OEM part either. I PMd the guy in the other post that shows a picture here. http://picasaweb.google.com/tinkererguy ... 7764525938 but have had no response. I really want to get this ordered.

Thanks Harry.

With that I found this.

Which led me to THIS

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... 73170.html

SO it would seem to me if the ebay item works for a W500 it should work for a W700, but I'm just going to buy the OEM part and be done with it.

New information.

I have found that some W700s came with 9.5mm optical drives while most came with 12.7mm optical drives but all W500s come with 9.5mm optical drives, therefore the 2nd HDD adapter that works for the W500 does not work for the W700 without modification (shim). This is not something I would suggest the average user attempt. I am going to put my mill to work on a piece of delrin or teflon to use as a slippery shim.

The factory part number claims 10.5mm. This may be why these drives all have an alignment pin sticking out the end. Kind of a cheap move on Lenovo's part. THe build quality of my UB2000 drives are all superior (and I have several).
