W500 with backlit LED?

#1 Post by voirin » Wed Dec 09, 2009 8:09 am

Hi, I went into Harris Technology (store in Australia) and specifically asked for a Thinkpad with Backlit LED. The man told me that one is available in the W500 series. The specific config is:

W500 4062 - Core Duo T9900 / 3.06 GHz, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HDD.

I asked him several times to confirm the backlit panel availability on the W500 and he said yes. The printed spec sheet that I got from him makes no mention of this. Only thing it says is 15.4" TFT 1920 x 1200 WUXGA. I guess he doesn't know what he is talking about?

I'm getting a bit tired of lenovo not making nice crisp screens available on their high end laptops. The Dell E6500 Latitude has an amazing bright 15.4" 1920 x 1200 WUXGA panel. Previously purchased a T61p and it was likened to viewing a CAM version of a movie. I just had to get rid of it. I've been trying to find any news on the upcoming W510, but there is only a lot of here-say as to whether it will have backlit panels or not. Anyone can confirm this?

Cheers,
V

CCFL according to tabook. In fact, the highest resolution LED backlit screens are only WXGA+.

Giday M8...
i was passing thru and noticed this post ,,,, so stopped to give my 2bobs worth ,,,,,as a fellow aussie, just had to help out ,,,,

a) 'W' series laptops = WORKSTATION series( replaceing the older "p" professional series.....
Nope as far as I know Lenovo always have had 'issues' with offering/making GOOD DISPLAYs.....and still is the case in my view! I have had wrecked my brains with them for W500 with REAL HD screen etc etc and gave up and now having major issues with contecting to a "REFERANCE DISPLAY etc
In short , I would take that HARRIS TECH order sheet and configure that in Lenovo website (not sure in ausssie these days if the USA items are offered as 'std' items or they might be doing better screen - you never know mate!)
b) I have a W500 with BD writer , so I can play 1080p movies - but am left with display = only 'normal WXGA!! and what makes it worse , that the EXTERNAL ports dont even do 1080P NOR audio!!!!!!
c) If the Display is critical , then only option I would suggest = Y series with"HD" display option. I am not sure of this range , but do have a good idea of W & T seires laptops from Lenovo......
c) Last time I got info re 510 = was to be same as 500 with some basic updates (internals) etc etc...but that was weeks ago,,,,, and in these product cycles it means nothing .....best way to know is when you get one in your hands...

I short , get the HARRIS guy to give that commitment in writing and than you sweet.....then waite and see if he is able to 'deleiver' !!

In short , I wouldnt RISK ordering one with the info HE IS GIVEING without him clearly writing out on ORDER docs!!.....while waiting for delivery (You might be waiting a loooooong time! like me) GO enjoy those XXXX (fourx = AUSSIE BEER)....

sheelberight matey!
