Need Help with some errors

When trying to backup my hard drive Clonezilla dies with a bad sector error. I lived with the fact I couldn't back up my system for a while and recently I had to send my T61P into IBM for a system board replacement. I decided it was time to get the HD replaced also. After much thought and trial and error I found I could boot Clonezilla and do a cp -av * of the Vista partition and restore it back. Not that it matters but I used a VMWare disk as a repository for the backup. Once I got the TP back I restored the system, and have 2 issues and am looking for advise on how to fix them. First when I boot I get 2 notepad sessions with this text in it's body

second I get a pop error message

I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling TP utils and it fails.
