Kingspec 32GB SSD problem - wont boot/format or anything
Kingspec 32GB SSD problem - wont boot/format or anything
Hi
I installed a Kingspec 32 GB SSD in my IBM X41 just before Christmas.
Suddenly it began to act very slow in Windows 7 and decided to freeze.
Rebooting have failed. Not even Safe mode boot.
If I wait long enough at it trying to boot it gives BSOD with "Unmountable boot volume".
I have tried using fixmbr and to use different utilities on Ultimate Boot CD to fix it.
Trying to delete my Windows partition during XP install it fails and says that it can't delete.
I have used Ubuntu CD to try to delete and format the partition. After a while it displays that the format was unsuccesful.
Any suggestions?
I haven't got a 40 to 44-pin adapter, so I have only tried the drive in my IBM X41 and not in my workstation.
If this is a RMA, is it then worth the trouble to send it to China? I have never tried sending anything that long.
In Denmark the manufacturer must cover all costs associated with the RMA, but I guess I shouldn't expect that from Kingspec in China.
I hope somebody has a suggestion or two.
Or have anybody experienced a similar problem?
Regards, Martin

Activekilldisk supports SSD's, have you tried that?

I had a OCz brand SSD die this week. It showed nearly identical behavior to yours. I was prepared for some failures with this new technology, and just had to accept the loss.mhca wrote:Hi

The Intel brand SSDs seem very good; all three of mine have been trouble free. Prices are dropping, too.
Re: Kingspec 32GB SSD problem - wont boot/format or anything
How depressing...
I am trying Active Killdisk at the moment.
When trying to erase the disk, it states at the bottom of the screen:
"Warning: Error writing sector XX on device Hard disk 0 30.0 GB"
where XX indicates increasing sector numbers.
Doesn't seem like it want to play along in any way. Progress just stays at 0%.
Have anybody here tried to send hardware to China?

They have an RMA process...seems pretty straight forward.

Re: Kingspec 32GB SSD problem - wont boot/format or anything
Well. The process seems pretty straight forward.
But the shipping costs are 222 DKR (40 USD, 30 Euros). I paid 600 DKR for the SSD.
If the shipping costs are not covered/refunded by Kingspec, then I'm not sure it's worth the trouble and money....
Also because it might also cause troubles with customs when they are sending the replacement unit.
I rarely use the laptop at the moment because I have two other laptops while doing my masters thesis (T60 and T61), but the X41 is nice for a bit of surfing in the couch and to bring in the backpack when a larger keyboard and monitor is not needed.
I still have the old HDD which I can use... but the SSD gave so much faster responses in Windows and boot.
Anybody who knows if they refund the shipping costs?

No answer from Kingspec yet. Filled out the form Thursday night (that is Friday morning Chinese time).
Not comforting that responses are slow.
The 40 dollar shipping is scaring me, including the fact, that the customs might charge me for the returned disk.

Re: Kingspec 32GB SSD problem - wont boot/format or anything
I just got the exact same issues with my 64GB kingspec with win7 on there. I was able to recover my data off with getdataback ntfs loaded onto BartPE.
But the drive looks like it won't be working anymore. This seems like a common issue with SSD's.

I seriously am crossing my fingers here that kingspec won't be a worthless deadbeat on their support.

Spooky here - I was about TWO paragraphs into the Dvorak article referenced in the above url and my laptop just STOPPED. Totally...as I hit the power button, I wondered if I was gonna get the "deader'n a door nail" messages listed in above posts...astroidea wrote:I just got the exact same issues with my 64GB kingspec with win7 on there. Surprisingly, everything came up fine...old Z61p, so no telling what happened.
Also interesting that this past weekend, I made total backups of this drive(to a new mechanical drive), which just happens to be a Kingspec SSD 30Meg that I bought about six months ago.
Fortunately, I have a fairly static setup, so as long as I have the full backup, I'm pretty much ok. Just a little bit of stuff to periodically/incrementally backup, so am in pretty good shape.
Would appear, folks, that backups with this SSD technology are more important than ever...
Re: Kingspec 32GB SSD problem - wont boot/format or anything
Got my replacement all and well. Thanks to Kingspec for the awesome support!
